my citation includes the following
24004 v.c. unlawful operation
26708 v.c. (a)(1) tint

you can go to another ref, pretty much any community college with an automotive degree does them.
I know there's one in san bruno and one in fremont, as I went to both about 8 years ago.
(or you could just unplug your gauges, go to the ref, get it signed off, and be done with it the easy way).

Had a state ref at Evergreen about 4 years back. Only mod was the fuel pressure gauge. The guy hassled me saying that it could be a regulator, I asked him to find me a set screw on the sensor that allows me to adjust pressure. He took a look, couldn't find anything then it passed.

This is never gonna stop till someone sues them in a federal court.What a bunch of ridiculous bullshit.If it were me id be in jail because i wouldve attacked the guy.Call one of your local news stations about this and see if you can put the ref's on blast.
And as far as emissions are concerned it shouldnt even matter whats on your car or not on your car.All that should matter is what is coming out of the tail pipes.But that would probably take an act of god.

Aftermarket boost gauges became illegal for smog in 2010 I think but the refs are the only ones that inforce it

Just had a customer with a Whippled 06 GT get sent to ref.
He had 3 gauges, in which one was an air/fuel.
They told him it has to be removed because it's "tampering" with the exhaust due to it being a bung in the exhaust pipe.
Also failed becuase the bassani mufflers had too high of a db.
We swapped mufflers to stock oem and removed the gauge....along with new factory h-pipe(which was a fortune to buy lol)
Passed ref and everything is ok. It took 2 tries though.
