This Mac Dre thread has me puzzled. SO for all fans of his on this site (and there are quite a few) post 5 songs of his that would make me a fan. I don't see where the hype comes from.
You all know I know my shit when it comes to music, so no need to post "you gotta listen to the words" or "his lyrics are deep" lol. Just post and make me a believer...

He rapped about what he did and what he was about, so that alone got me as a fan, I listen to anybody who keeps it REAL, Mac Dre was as REAL as it gets. Did that get him a multi-million dollar deal with a record-company? No, did he get killed for it? I believe so.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaBe2B8uK-g
Here's a song where he's rapping about the realities of prison, is it nice to hear? Nah, but is it honest about what the federal prison is about? Yup.
If you think Mac Dre is too harsh, or don't listen to him because of his violence then please do us all a favor and head to your nearest target to get your latest copy of Kids Bop.

We all know??? I don't know who you are! Are you tupac?? Are you a producer? I know all the lyrics to the "I love you" song from barney so does that mean that I know my shit when it comes to music? Maybe to some. So since I seem to know my shit when it comes to music, I say MAC DRE was a pretty good rapper.

"keeping it real" makes someone great these days? I listened to everything and I won't put it past em for keeping it real...but he was sub-par even when he was out. But I'm not bashing the dude, I just was trying to see the hype. I don't.

Eminem, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Stack Bundles, Drake, Clipse (mostly Pusha T.) Ross, Meek Mill, Game, Bun B, Chris Brown, Usher, Justin (Timberlake and Beiber) Jay-z, Kanye, Joey Marx, Freck Billionaire, Fabolous, Jadakiss, Styles, Beans, Freeway

I don't really like Bay Area style music...minus a few songs.

Mac Dre was entertaining as hell. He was a character. He was the definition of swag (never do I use that word, nor like it. But its him) Lyrics aren't always deep. But can be on certain songs. Dude just always spit straight game.

By lookin at the list I wouldn't even bother. Dude said it best on a song "we ain't fall off, we just too real for the industry" -cozmo
To be a successful bay area rapper you gotta be street and be real about what you rap about. Big reason why no one is on a national level. It looks as if you don't care about that concept. Nothing wrong with that tho.

I think you guys are taking what I'm saying the wrong way...never once did I say dude was ass or he sucks. I simply said I don't see what all the hype is. you are correct with the "to each his own" but that's why I made this thread...because I am open minded and I don't just cast someone aside without hearing what they have to say first. BUT after I listened...still not understand where all the hype is coming from. E-40 shits on him IMO, lol..I'm just sayin

I can see where you comin from. I'll be the first to admit he isn't he isn't the best lyricist. But the way he said things and did things is what made him dope. So if you don't see it as a whole I can see how people can think he is sub par.
40 only wishes he was as dope as Dre. Hella tried riding Dre's wave after her passed.

trust me I totally know what you mean by delivery of someone's music. Young Jeezy is sub-par lyrically but he makes up for it with the voice and delivery. I can't listen to MD ALL day, after 2 or 3 songs his voice starts to piss me off lmao. he sounds SOOOO basic. like a simple A-B-C flow and a weak voice. But he can make music to get people "bouncin" though...I'll give em that.

Its all in the person and how they take it in...i have listen to him and basically all og bay rap growing up and exposed myself to it more than east coast or shit basicly all other parts of the countries styles. There is other stuff i dig, but i guess you can say its my flavor. For the record though e40 doesn't do for me much anymore.
I like some random stuff, but if you can't get it, you can't get it. That what makes us who we are.

no one cares who was ON something 1st lol. I relate that to the car game...who was the 1st to swap an engine out of a car and throw it into another one? Who was the 1st to take a Cobra bumper and slap it on a GT? people no longer pay respect to who did what first, those days are gone. I could tell you I was the 1st person to put a collection of my Jordans on YouTube and that I coined the term "HEAT!" at the same time...but it doesn't matter lol...

prolly the most annoying thing that is said regarding bay area music and mac dre. not everything is hyphy. the sound you are reffering to is not even what mac dre was about. they took that shit too far. and what your talkin about is a result of people tryin to capitlize and make a quick buck of mac dre's idea.

You would have to be listening to Mac dre before he died for you to understand. You can't just hop on and try to listen to him now. Youd have to know about the romper room gang and all that to understand. I hate it how drake is trying to rep Mac dre with his motto song. Mac dre has 2 sides, the hyphy side and the serious side.
One of few off my all time fav songs. Listen to it Jae

and where did Mac Dre move to in 2000?
Oh, that's right... Sac.
I think most fans of Dre are usually a bit older. Old enough to have seen him perform or met him. A lot of the bandwagon youngsters only started liking him AFTER he died and the whole Hyphy movement started exploiting the attention his untimely death brought to a relatively small scale local music scene.
Dre was a cool dude. His music kept it real. It wasn't exactly great music, but it was entertaining. His style was unique.

The main reason why I think you don't get the hype ,on bay rap ,or even rap from sac ,is you didn't grow up here ,you grew up in SoCal when SoCal rap was pretty much dead. so you had to listen to pop rap ,bubble gum rap ,stuff that got radio play . so that's why I don't think you get or even like the stuff that came from northern Cali ,dre from the early 90s and all music that came from northern Cali was on a whole other level ,its where a lot of slang came from ,it was ahead of the music that was out all over. but it's what you like nobody is going to talk you into what why and how on this hype shit either you do or don't plain and simple, it's also a pride thing as well a lot of people take pride in the fact dre and a lot of these rappers are local and talked about real shit that was happening locally .. Just my .02

I like a good few of the people on your list, but most of them dudes aint even real, or even talkin about shit other than all their famous money and drugs, and the same shit all other rappers talk about but dont be real about it..
I used to like eminem, now he's too fuckin depressing
joe budden is wack
joell ortiz has a few coo songs i like
never heard of stack bundlez
Drake is gay as fuck, but has a few coo songs.
I like clipse
Ross is fake but he makes coo trap music. I fuck with trap music lol
Meek mill is a coo spitta, i dont really listen to him.
Game is good
Bun B is dope, but ima say i always preferred pimp c's flow better. RIP..
Chris brown's weak.
Usher sounds like a girl now especially
Justin T, when combined with timbo is a guaranteed pop slap,
but did you really say you like beiber?? no comment
Jay-z is a legend but not my style.
I liked Kanye's old shit, but I think he let fame get to his head, now his shit aint always appealing to me.
Fab is dope, sometimes, sometimes he's alright. the other dudes are coo.
there im done, i was bored so i went through your list and gave my opinion..

joe budden is just not my style, and to me he is wack, always has been i respect the underground flow, but im not fan.. he's corny to me.

I guess bottom line is, you dont fuck with west coast music outside of what was on the radio in the 90's and early 2000's. its that plain and simple. not surpising.

LOL you must have overlooked what I said, i never said he wasnt a great lyricist, that is plain to see, but his material is fallin off in terms of what made him dope. thats just my opinion.. em is an excellent lyricist, love em's old shit... just his new shit is at a different level of just constant sadness it seems.

Ive been listening to hip Hop music since I was a kid, 10 years old. Born and raised in the bay . You have to be From the bay or raised to understand this Bayarea Music or northern ca music .. from rbl posse, coughnut , c-bo, brotha lynch , locksmith , e40 , dre, and cant forget SAN QUINN. I can name tons but you get the point . We all grow up different and raised diff .. we were all born at different times and Era's so some can not relate or understand it . plain & simple . other people I listen to is Eazy e , snoop , dr dre, eminem (one of the best in lyrics) eastcoast . big , naz , jay z . I like drake, wayne, ross but YOU CANT COMPARE to some that I just named to them . And thats just my opinion . Im open to all music .

95% of the listeners are guilty with this song by Joe. If you can't relate to this song, you probably shouldn't listen to Hip Hop.
Joe Budden - Hip Hop

Did ya'll forget the BET Cyphers???
"That ain't a wet dream, you just gettin shot at while sleepin"
That's line is more creative than the whole Bay Area has been in the past 5 years. And I eat, sleep and breathe Bay music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk0wKbcUsig&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL2D25180BAAEA576E
The SLAUGHTERHOUSE CYPHER?? The ONLY artist from the Bay that can even keep up with these dudes is LOCKSMITH. PERIOD. And maybe a pinchful of other underground battle rappers that ya'll ain't even heard of.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS4lZs3MiHg
AND this is coming from a non Joe Budden fan, but you HAVE to respect his emcee skill set. And if you refuse to give props and can't see past the light, it's like pulling up in a Fox Body on 20in rims, chances are... you don't know jack shit about your craft and you're car is slow a fuck. Now relate that back to Hip Hop music.
And @jaehow, I'm not a Mac Dre fan.. however.. you can't compare the type of artists you're into with Dre. It's two different styles, you might as well compare a NASCAR with a 700hp 93 Cobra street car. You can't compare a Rakim or a Masta Ace with a Mac Dre.. but you can with Big L. At the same time, you have to respect the skill set that Dre does and has. He was a character (which is very marketable in the rap game), an innovator, trend setter and ORIGINAL whether it was your thing or not. He did HIM. Not many artists do that these days. And you have to respect that also. Whether he's passed away or not.
And FWIW, underground rappers always talk shit about the industry... only cause they're broke as fuck. I fuckin hate Drake, BUT you can't deny the line when he says "Niggaz with no money act like money isn't everything." That's towards your favorite mad underground rapper. Yeah, it's "fuck the industry" on mine... BUT these dudes are eating. Can't knock that. But when it comes to RAW skills, BARS, emcee battling... only about 1% of the dudes on the radio and on major labels really have a chance to be Top 15 in the WHOLE Hip Hop world. Underground or Mainstream.

While I agree a decent amount of good music has come from the bay in the past... I have to point out that C-Bo and X-Raided aren't from the bay area. They're both from Sacramento.
Another Sacramento rapper that should make the list; Brotha Lynch Hung. If you never listened to Season of da Siccness back in the late 90's, you really weren't up on the California rap scene at all...

Do you like all the go dumb and go stupid references that these artists that are mainstream and you like use. In that case really listen to Max Dre if not I'm sure you'll here it in one of Weazy new tracks. Mainstream always copies the greats. So in essence you like Mac Dre since half the ones you like copy his style and flow. Case closed

You guys are lame fighting over this shit let dude listen to his gay ass music and listen to your own.
Everybody that listens to bay area music or any underground music for that matter always wants to be the first or sound like the first person that discovered it. So most motherfuckers overhype it to everyone else like its the greatest ever when in reality most music sounds like some other fucker or say a variation of what someone else said.
Rap and hip hop were made for you to feel it feel the beat the most important thing in a song is a hook. That's why most people do not give a fuck about some 10 minute flow over a weak ass beat with no hook. I don't give a shit how cool the word play is its boring as fuck!
