This Mac Dre thread has me puzzled. SO for all fans of his on this site (and there are quite a few) post 5 songs of his that would make me a fan. I don't see where the hype comes from.

You all know I know my shit when it comes to music, so no need to post "you gotta listen to the words" or "his lyrics are deep" lol. Just post and make me a believer...

"keeping it real" makes someone great these days? I listened to everything and I won't put it past em for keeping it real...but he was sub-par even when he was out. But I'm not bashing the dude, I just was trying to see the hype. I don't.

I can see where you comin from. I'll be the first to admit he isn't he isn't the best lyricist. But the way he said things and did things is what made him dope. So if you don't see it as a whole I can see how people can think he is sub par.

trust me I totally know what you mean by delivery of someone's music. Young Jeezy is sub-par lyrically but he makes up for it with the voice and delivery. I can't listen to MD ALL day, after 2 or 3 songs his voice starts to piss me off lmao. he sounds SOOOO basic. like a simple A-B-C flow and a weak voice. But he can make music to get people "bouncin" though...I'll give em that.

I think most fans of Dre are usually a bit older. Old enough to have seen him perform or met him. A lot of the bandwagon youngsters only started liking him AFTER he died and the whole Hyphy movement started exploiting the attention his untimely death brought to a relatively small scale local music scene.

Dre was a cool dude. His music kept it real. It wasn't exactly great music, but it was entertaining. His style was unique.

And @jaehow, I'm not a Mac Dre fan.. however.. you can't compare the type of artists you're into with Dre. It's two different styles, you might as well compare a NASCAR with a 700hp 93 Cobra street car. You can't compare a Rakim or a Masta Ace with a Mac Dre.. but you can with Big L. At the same time, you have to respect the skill set that Dre does and has. He was a character (which is very marketable in the rap game), an innovator, trend setter and ORIGINAL whether it was your thing or not. He did HIM. Not many artists do that these days. And you have to respect that also. Whether he's passed away or not.

And FWIW, underground rappers always talk shit about the industry... only cause they're broke as fuck. I fuckin hate Drake, BUT you can't deny the line when he says "Niggaz with no money act like money isn't everything." That's towards your favorite mad underground rapper. Yeah, it's "fuck the industry" on mine... BUT these dudes are eating. Can't knock that. But when it comes to RAW skills, BARS, emcee battling... only about 1% of the dudes on the radio and on major labels really have a chance to be Top 15 in the WHOLE Hip Hop world. Underground or Mainstream.

While I agree a decent amount of good music has come from the bay in the past... I have to point out that C-Bo and X-Raided aren't from the bay area. They're both from Sacramento.

Another Sacramento rapper that should make the list; Brotha Lynch Hung. If you never listened to Season of da Siccness back in the late 90's, you really weren't up on the California rap scene at all...

Everybody that listens to bay area music or any underground music for that matter always wants to be the first or sound like the first person that discovered it. So most motherfuckers overhype it to everyone else like its the greatest ever when in reality most music sounds like some other fucker or say a variation of what someone else said.

Rap and hip hop were made for you to feel it feel the beat the most important thing in a song is a hook. That's why most people do not give a fuck about some 10 minute flow over a weak ass beat with no hook. I don't give a shit how cool the word play is its boring as fuck!
