Own a boat? Good luck were abouts are you going to target? Are you trolling or looking to get live bait as Berkeley didn't have none today or yesterday only SF did good luck..

Yup actually when I used to work on charter boats back in 2000 when I was 16 at the farrallon islands I reached out with my ten foot gaf n got the big 30lbs. Ling n his head and as pulled him in about five feet from the boat plunging out of the water great white shark takes the big ling as I dropped the gaf n fell backwards...long story short got the gaf n just a ling head back whooh scary moment

the first time i ever spearfished, i was at lovers point or close to it in monterey

i popped a rockfish, and while i was reloading my gun....i felt a hard tug

i looked up and this ling had my rockfish completely in his mouth (i dont respool my line...i leave the fish on it like a stringer and just reload)

i had my gun in one hand, spear in the other......we just looked at each other for a minute (he had to spit the fish out to get away)...then i just stuck him by hand...and stringered him up

good times......lol

and yeah....been almost 5 years for me since ive seen saltwater....im fiending fo sho do !!!!
