S&W makes nice guns I just don't like the safety feature in which it takes a certain amount of pressure to pull the trigger. Does make the pull a little harder then other guns!!

I have one and love it! Fun little gun.

Let me know how you like it. I own a Sig 229r 40 cal and love it, but looking into a 2nd 40 cal. So for me it's between the Springfield XDm or the S&W M&P.

Omg. Been contemplating this purchase for months now. I think I like it better than a glock. A trigger mod and this gun is all you need IMO. Please let me know how you like it.

Will do. The only feature I'm not crazy about is the safety. There two different types of safety's for this weapon. A small mod and it'll be just what I need. However, it is a little too big for concealing.

The 229 is double the price but I feel it's worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love my MP, but that 229 will give you everything you can get out of this MP and more.

Ya, I know. I'm just looking into a secondary pistol. My 229 will always come first, and as a Primary weapon, I love it. It's extremely reliable, and has never let me down. I've been thinking for a long while about a good secondary, and have been open to something in a little lower price range. Again its a back up option.

Even though I JUST got my M&P today. I've been looking at revolvers all day long. Can't go wrong with a nice compact S&W revolver.

No, mine is a 229r with the serrations on the front of slide, Siglite night sights all around, 12rd clips. Basically the 229r Elite Dark, but no aluminum grip, its plastic.

I like the .40 - I feel like it's a good round, a good compromise between stopping power based on velocity & mass, and also the ability to be able to afford to shoot it, unlike some of the .45s that're costing ~$25/box of 50rds
Heres my P229, light trigger work, Ceramahide coated, Meprolight (or Trijicon, can't remember) night sights. Great shooter, very accurate, not much recoil. It's FS as well.....

Wow this post got taken over, back to the OP! The M&P 40 cal is a super nice gun. I have owned 2 of them so far! One got stolen in a house robbery I had!!! So I went and bought the same gun!!! The sig are nice but way over priced!!! For a gun that does the same thing!! In the medium market pistols, price wise u have the XD, M&P, Glock are your top guns. I have owned them all and M&P is the best in it's class! As far as smoothness and comfort with being super reliable!!
People can argue all day with what's "the best" but with guns it's mostly your personal preference and what your looking to use it for!! So I say great choice and have fun with it!!

Thanks. Finally some more feedback on the M&P. I haven't shot it yet. But I will this weekend. The only thing I'm not liking about it is the safety (or lack there of). Because the M&P with the thumb safety isn't sold in Cali.
