Who here owns a 1911? Just curious.

I currently own a Springfield 1911 TRP Stainless, which I purchased new last Nov. It has Novak night sights, an aggressive front and back strap...and the two piece guide rod...This is a badass pistol...I've owned it since brand new and ran 750 rounds...pure awesome.
Just want to see who else has the Model 1911 and what brand...

My two cents so this is strictly me talking here, I've been shooting guns for 20+ years, military and LE gotta say the Kimbers are overpriced. Before you pay for a Kimber shope around and make sure you get the best deal possible. I know two Deputies who traded in Kimbers within like 6 months! Then again I know a lot of guys who love Kimber like their GF so take it for what it's worth. Me personally I'd have to get a KILLER deal to even look at Kimber and I hate the Full length guide rods too as well as their Field Strip procedure.

But then again any 1911 is a good thing! Every man should own at least one!

If you are set on Kimber, and again I'm not dumping on Kimber, just not my first choice Cordova Shooting Center has a Kimber Stainless II for $799.

New Gun, I always try to find the best gun deals for people and recoil on a 1911 isn't anything to worry about it's heavier so you should get some tight groupings, my girl is 4'10 and she handles the 1911 better them my Glocks or S&W's.

Only thing missing is a bottle of Bourbon!!!

How's that GSR? That's actually the 1911 I'm looking at right now, love Sig P226's figured I'd give it a try. And .45ACP at River City Gun Exchange is like $18 a box.

Why should I buy a 1911 over a polymer pistol? I think polymer pistols are lighter, making folow up shots more accurate, have less moving parts to wear, and hold more rounds. What would be an advantage of a 1911?

well the glocks only come up to i believe .40 cal, so the 1911 def, has more stopping power, i prefer the recoil of a 45 over a 9mm or .40, but it's mostly about personal preference, I personaly wouldn't get a glock, don't like the way they feel in my hand, I think the sigs are much better made and balanced. people also love the 1911s because it has been the preferred side arm of the us army since world war 1, and they just look big and bad ass, but like shoes, they don't all fit everyone so try them all out and make your decision based on that.

Correctomundo. They come in .380, 9mm,.40,.45 ACP/GAP,.357 Sig, and 10mm.

They also provide full size, compact, and sub-compact in every one of those calibers except the .380 & .357. The .380 only comes in a compact and subcompact frame whereas the .357 only comes in the full size and compact frame, no sub-compact for the .357 Sig.

Actually believe it or not in regards to follow up shots the 1911 wins in that department. Solely because it is heavier then the polymer framed pistols therefore when you shoot the gun, it dances less then it would on a lighter framed pistols.

Compact Glock 20 in 10mm or a Sig 226 , a 1911 can't even compare to a Sig and they are about the same price.

It's not about that you should own both! Yes I love my Glock but a 1911 is something I knew as a kid I would own.

And lol if you need more then 8 rounds of .45ACP then I don't want to be anywhere near you when the S hits the fan!

Wilson Combat, yeah there are definitely members with cars that cost less, great guns from what I've heard just can't convince myself to spend that kind of coin.

Still fires like a dream and sits right next to me at night loaded with Corbon jacketed hollow points.

Thanks! I absolutely love it. I traced the serial number and it was made in the early 40s by Remington Rand in Syracuse NY.

Out of all ther guns I own, its definately my favorite.

Thanks! I absolutely love it. I traced the serial number and it was made in the early 40s by Remington Rand in Syracuse NY.

Out of all ther guns I own, its definately my favorite.

I hope to purchase an original 1911, saw one on cal guns the other day for like 1300, very tempting.

i really dont see what the big deal is about a 1911 besides bragging. my buddy has one and i have a glock 30 (45 cal) he has about 7000 rounds through it and i only have maybe 400 through my glock. His gun was only slighty more accurate then me at the same distance which is probably because he has more rounds through his gun and goes to the range more often. I like me glock because its easily concealable, quality made and reasonably priced. I see no real benefit to spending 1500 and up on a damn handgun....

i'd take a 1911 in a close quarter shootout over a glock any day lol.

+1000. There is a reason why the 1911 has been virtually unchanged for 101 years, because it works, no questions asked.

101 years.

benelli tactical marine issue lol, haven't bought a handgun yet, but it's all personal preference, whoever places the first accurate shot wins in a gun fight, correct?

and some people only want stock mustangs, are they wrong? it's all personal preference, i just prefer my guns to be made out of metal and not polymers.

Still..... Neither guns can compare to a Sig Saurer p226/p229.
1911's, Glock's, Berreta's have been the starndard of which law enforcement personel, Military and other government agencies have kept as a gold standard. But the real people in the know, know that the Sig P series is where it's at.

i have a frankenstein 1911, part remington rand, part interarms silver cup

here it is with my XDm and Glock 21

 -

i also have this pretty cool gun, 1911 knockoff, its an old argentinian police gun "ballester-molina"

stopped production in the 40's i think

this is after i refinished it, but i blued a lil more after the pic

 -

it takes colt mags and barrel...but thats it...notice ther eis no grip safety, and the internals are not the same either

neat gun tho....both of those are beaters...and i wouldnt trade them for anything
