We bought our first home back in July, 2011 and we did our taxes today and got back $5,000

Hope for more this year.

You can change your withholdings and take home roughly $400 more per month. That's being conservative as it's really more than that, unless you had a lot of tax credits and weren't paying that much in taxes monthly.

I've wanted to change my withholdings, but how do you know what to change it to?? I'd rather not pay at the end of the year either!

8k right here but I gave most of it out to the wife parents.just kept abot 3k for my self almost all is gone.

If your getting returns, you're not managing your money correctly. My goal every year is to get as close to neutral as possible. Hell, I almost rather have to pay a little. At least that way I made the interest and not uncle Sam...
