So I got this great chance to pick up a 2003 f250 super duty with the v10 triton motor auto trans cloth beige interior with 2 DVD screens. Get this...it has 37000 miles and there asking 18k also has auto running board tow package truck liner and it's lifted on new swampers and 20 or 22's but clean not ghetto fabulous. Also has a little exhaust system. I'm a first time buyer so how should I go about the financing and all the good stuff. Also anybody got any insight I to one of these trucks? Thanks cafords

Financing, yuck. Make sure you realize that you're paying that big ass number in the box on that finance agreement.

Insight:
Better invest in oil refinery stocks because that V10 is going to go through ALOT of gas
V10 is underpowered and VERY thirsty

Yeah at least the diesel can run forever.

First off I wouldn't finance anything unless I had to or could guarantee myself I could flip it for at least some profit the next day.

What do you do where you need a V10? Especially an underachieving one at that. If you NEED the size and power diesels are a much better option.

Posted by norcalfiddy (Member # 11207) on :

yea get a diesel james, way worth the money, v10's are junk. you can get my style truck for around 5k and like 99-2000 7.3's are around 10-15k i believe. and there bulletproof. will last you forever.

I'll look for diesels but Cody I told you come through at 330 you didn't come over. Slow ass driver lol

Posted by 1Sicgt (Member # 714) on :

Stay far away from that V10. Gets way less mpg then deisel and with less tow power. What ever mods it has, you can buy them with the gas you save.

Is there a reason why u want a truck? Just want one or do you really need one? Personally I don't like driving trucks kuz theres no point unless you're towing something.

Not to be a Dick but Most the cars people buy aren't because they need one, its cause they want it..I'm sure u don't "need" a mustang and I dont "need" a Corvette when I already have a fast car. Might jus be something he likes.

Well neight truth is a truck opens doors if it's capable of doing a lot. I mean look at lee he offers towing an hauling with his truck and I bet he can carry more ply wood and 2x4's than any mustang ever could. and maybe I work at an independent shop and we need to go pick up or drop off a customers car I become a very valuable employee along with my mechanical skills. I'm a multifaceted dude so if I'm remodeling a house with my dad my mustang or Lexus won't be the one to carry tools. If Im going to get a engine from Dan I'm not gonna do it in a Lexus. If I'm buying rims an tires a bed will help a lot. And I got plenty of fam and a 4 door crew cab is a people hauler lol sorry for the rambling I'm just putting in my .02

Trucks are awesome work, fishing, outdoors stuff you can't do in a car plus when you drive a truck you meet a ton of chicks that would never talk to a car guy lol but like everyone else said beware of the V10 you will get raped at the gas station on a regular basis. As far as financing hell we all have to finance a car at some point everyone acts like they have 20k to drop up front on a vehicle I call BS just make sure you get a term and percentage rate you are good with in case something changes in your life.

In some ways that's true but lee tows with a diesel and you can bring tools to a jobsite in a compact car you only need a truck once for a job to bring materials so the truck would sit until you have another job to bring materials to a job site and you don't need TVs and big rims and tires to do any of those things if you just want a truck just to have a nice truck go for it but if your getting one so the truck can work for you the truck you chose is the wrong choice IMO but ultimately the choice is yours to make just thi k it through before you make a choice like this

My buddy Jerome had the same truck tune ups were not cheap and the thing went through gas like it was free in the end he got rid of it and lost his ass he ended up getting the diesel version of it. the diesel was a better truck and investment plus you get free fuel when you drive a big rig [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] like we do

this is not the best time to have a truck, id buy me a lil yaris and get me 40 mpg and look cool as fuck passing up gas stations left and right hahahaha

Posted by LXjames (Member # 10791) on :

But Rick your a gangster tho and the yaris is cool but if I want mpg I'll go get a modded pre 72 Datsun 510 lol

Posted by 84SVOrick (Member # 9039) on :

lol im no gangsta but i appreciate more money in my pocket, hate having to fill up every 3 days from commuting to work, i think it would be a better financial decision to get a small truch rather then a v10 which isnt even worth it, its more of a work horse then a everyday thing...id get me either a ranger or a tacoma or sumthing of that nature, they can still do things and get awsome gas milage, jus dont jump the gun on making a big ass purchase your gonna regret, you have plenty of time to be like lee lol...but id keep my options open, just remeber its a 5yr commitment plus it has almost no resale value

Well I'm looking the diesels now 7.3's only xlt crew cabs raised and below 200k miles 6' beds only and the prices aren't to bad at. Actually I found one for like 3k less than the v10 model I first spoke of. I might even go cummins but the ones I like aren't old enough to get a good price. A 99 ford f250 looks better than a 99 2500.

Posted by norcalfiddy (Member # 11207) on :

7.3's FTW.

and damn never got a text about 330, ill come by at 330 tomorrow, cool?

7.3 powerstroke bad ass diesel my brother is a diesel mechanic and worked on them all the time he took me for a ride in one that had the BANKS peformance parts and that thing was bad ass

If youre gonna finance, I suggest you go short term. Since youre a first time buyer and the car is that old, the banks are gonne hit you with a REAL UNNATRACTIVE interest rate. They do that so you dont finance older cars.

You can finance short term and keep your rate lower. I dont know what your credit score is but usually when we get first time buyers with 620-680 scores, we usually get approvals for around 8-16% And thats just the buy rate, not even us making any money on it.

I hope you get a great deal on the finance end of it.

I just went through this.

There is a reason the V10s are sooo much cheaper. They are crap.

They perform like shit and eat fuel.

After owning this turbo diesel I will never own another gasoline engine truck...unless Im flippin it.

Be patient. Dont be afraid of the 6.0L. It takes quite a few mods from a 7.3 to keep up with a 6.0L. The newer 08 trucks are a nightmare to work on and maintain.

If you get a 6.0L try to get one with EGR delete or replaced EGR and OIL cooler. Run CAT coolant in it.

Maintenance is more important with regards to the fuel system on a diesel and you are looking at something that holds 3 gallons of oil.

My diesel has a programmer and gets from 14-19mpg loaded (14) or agressive tune and unloaded 19mpg with economy tune. I believe Lee gets more.

You been in my truck on the economy tune I believe James.......it is what it is.

I paid 18K for mine last year it is clean as fuck, lifted and had 93k on it.

Ive put another 30k on it since July!!

Dan

Yea Dan I personally drove your truck that day we used it for work and it's better than most luxury cars. And the dodge 2500 we have at work is smooth as butter too and I used to drive a f350 sd dully all the time. But yea first thing I would do is go get a economy tune and aggressive tune at left coast diesel. I'll be going to take a look at that one I posted this week hopefully it's a good deal and it's got the lifespan of a regular commuter left in it still.
