not common that I know of, and it's a $6 part if you do the labor yourself to replace the rear main seal. Pull exhaust/trans.

so that's not a sign of a tired engine?im just shocked car only had 109k mi wonder what caused it to leak maybe driving it hard?

might have been filled with too much oil at one point or somebody changed it when doing a clutch job in the past and didn't seat it correctly, driving hard shouldn't have any effect on a rear seal.

Mine just started leaking in the last year or so. I didnt notice it until i slightly overfilled on an oil change. I open track my car so a little more oil is a good thing. My car has about 100k on it. the last 10-15k have be a "little" hard though lol

RMS leaks are extremely common once the car has some age/miles behind it.

I absolutely hate that particular seal due to the amount of work it takes to get to them.

It's all too often that you hear about people dropping the exhaust, transmission, and flywheel/clutch to replace the seal only to find out that it's leaking after the first drive since it was not seated correctly or their sealing surfaces are grooved.

I run away from cars with RMS leaks. By some miracle it's never been an issue on my '96 but every other Mustang I have owned had some this damn RMS issue.
