BS in Information Tech with a minor in Computer Science, Cal State Channel Islands `08.
My wife has a BA in Psych from Cal State Channel Islands, an MS in Psych from Cal Lutheran University, and is currently working on her Doctorate in Pysch from Cal Lutheran.
Luckily I worked through my degree and had no loans, and my wife did the same all through her Masters, but we took out loans to pay for her Doctorate, she better get a job when she's done with that

I was heavy into robotics when I was a EE major. I had got accepted to the GE/NASA robotics program. But my ass chased hoop scholarships, so I transferred to higher profile University. Not mad, I was able to play some pro-ball and graduated. But I miss robotics. And there are tons of jobs in that sector.

Pfffff I've changed majors so many times... went from Planetary Astronomy and Science, to Philosophy, to Business, to Psychology... now i'm in Elementary Particle Physics...
Sucks, because all the wasted classes i've taken for Majors i'm no longer interested in. Wasted a few semesters and lots of money.
Actually haven't even gone the last couple semesters. Since i'm currently unemployed, I don't wanna drop the money on the books. and financial aid turned me down.

That's funny. You could easily prove (or disprove) it though. You can usually dig up the basketball rosters for the last 50 years. For Kentucky you can look up all the way to 1949.
For overseas, there is an encyclopedia, just like the MLB one.

Ya you can post a roster easily. There shouldn't be any pics or anything, well.. depending on what year you were playing.
There are obviously certain privacy laws, so anything other than basic info should be hidden.

+1.
1. I don't see why people on this forum feel that as an individual we have the "need" to provide them with personal information like house, phone, or any kind of "proof", just to make them feel better that your reality is their fantasy.
2. I think people who don't go/went to college shouldn't be posting in this thread unless he/she plans to go back to school or keeps it school related.
***So if you're illiterate and want to stay that way, GTFO! Stop ruining a good thread.

You are the epitome of the word Contradiction...I've seen stories, on HERE from YOU, talking about dunking on Labron James to now almost being in NASA...you're still in the ghetto in Stockton right? but you don't need public approval huh.... I get it now.....
and to stay on track: School is a definite plus...
I own my own business as well as work as a Software Engineer
I would have to be one of top 10% of Engineers to make even close to what my business clears in a year....but that's because I took a lot of what I learned about business management and a Business Life Cycle in school.
But it is also nice having a career that only schooling has provided and opened a lot of doors for me and my family

I am not sure why that is hard to believe (never met LBJ, But I did dunk on Terrell Owens at San Leandro 24hr fitness, back in 98...lol). And no I was never close to being at NASA. I was accepted to a robotics program them and GE sponsored. I was a collegiate athlete that took my education serious and saw an opportunity to get a free education and took it very seriously and maximized it. I guess it is unimaginable that you and I are some what in the same field? And also share the fact that we are business owners? I dunno what to say man. I live life. Even to this day I maximize all opportunities. I am in excellent health physically, mentally and spiritually. Oh yea and I coach basketball, still can hoop with the best of them and box. That must be the straw that broke the camels back... hahahaha.

Business classes. Most colleges offer certificate programs as well. Where you learn bookkeeping, MS office and basic business management. That can get you going quickly. Good luck. A down economy is THE best time to start a business.

I would have to be one of top 10% of Engineers to make even close to what my business clears in a year....but that's because I took a lot of what I learned about business management and a Business Life Cycle in school.
But it is also nice having a career that only schooling has provided and opened a lot of doors for me and my family

Business classes. Most colleges offer certificate programs as well. Where you learn bookkeeping, MS office and basic business management. That can get you going quickly. Good luck. A down economy is THE best time to start a business.
Thanks

Absolutely. Networking is essential for career advancement. Most will tell you that who knows you is most important. However, you will have more opportunities for others to know you if you have that open door.

I would say get a business degree, you actually don't need a degree to open a business, but it helps. I'm looking to open an injection Mold company in a few years, so I went to school and got an MBA (Masters in Business Association) and I'm partnering up with a guy who is really business savy.
The most important thing in opening a business is you have to be experienced in what your doing, you can't open a mechanic shop, when you have never worked on cars.

THIS!!!! and save a ton of money and be prepared to go without a paycheck for a while unless you already have customers/contracts lined up....but still your initial costs and salary to yourself, usually eat up profits for a while...
and just keep in mind that over 80% of new businesses fail within the first two years....
Another good education would be to talk to people in that industry and learn from them as well...most won't tell you jack, but you'll get a small few that will...
Take some classes in Finance as well...being your own accountant and also learning the costs of employees is a big plus too....depending on what business you're opening.

I was originally going to do business, but this last year a few things made me change my mind. I am now going to school to become a radiologist, wish I would have picked it from the start lol. I have always had an interest in the medical field & the pay has me more than convinced lol.

70 hours a week ain't bad, got to pay the cost to be the boss. Nobody balling ever works a 40 HR week. Minimum work equals minimum results.

college is over-rated.
who the hell would want to work 40hrs a week and make 6 figures usually with a BS degree within a few years of getting out when you can work 2jobs pulling in 80hrs+ a week and MAYBE get that 6 figures right out of high school. i dunno about u but id rather work my ass off all day than relax at home after a normal work day. relaxation is over-rated.
the 4-5 years sacrifice for college to boost up your credentials, resume and gain that applicant advantage just aint worth it
yes, for those considering college or the naysayers, it is a proven fact that your chances of finding a job and a better one at that is greatly improved with a college education vs someone who has come off the street with only a highschool education. however, thats not to say there arent some success stories of those with only high school educations making it big but thats not the norm.
go to school, your mama will be proud of u.

He spends over 1500 hours at work then someone who works 40 hours a week. You can keep that.

+1, I mean if it works for folks, that is great. But like I said earlier I am a fan of working smarter not harder. Although I put in a lot of hours too, but that is mainly because I run a business.

May be true for some people but for most a college education/degree will improve ones chances for a good career and will certainly improve ones quality of life .
To me its well worth the years of time and effort in learning .

Time = Money, right?
If you agree, then:
60k for 40 hrs is actually a "better hourly rate" than 100k at 70hrs.
If you are paid bi-weekly:
70 hrs a week: 26 pay-periods in a year at 140hrs/pay period = 3640 hrs
100k/3640 hrs = $27.47/hr
40 hrs a week: 26 pay-periods in a year at 80hrs/pay period = 2080 hrs
60k/2080 hrs = $28.84/hr
Based on your definition of "bi-weekly" the number of pay-periods might be +-1. But in either case, the logic is the same.
Not tryin' to hate but there are plenty of 40hr/week jobs with close to or over 100k.

Yeah instead of LOL looking it up even if college cost 100k in the end college graduates make more money in the long bud its only a google seach away...that 100k cost to be the boss is right college grads make over 1 million more $ than a high school grad...yeah you got your steve jobs, bill gates and various rap stars but you got a better chance hitting the mega millions than being "that guy"
