Not so short rant...
So as some of you know, I do alternator and starter rebuilds and repairs as a hobby/sidejob. So two days ago a mechanic that I know sends one of his customers to get an alternator that we had in stock.
When he gets there he asks if we have it in stock so I say yes. After, we switch pullies because he had an aftermarket pully. So I put it on my Alternator.starter testing machine and it shows that it is charging like it is supposed to. We start talking price and I give him a price. He begins arguing about how the mechanic said it would be less (this is because I have agreements with some mechanic friends to do sidejobs for them for extra cheaper than normal). After him bitchin about the price I tell him fine, I'll give it to you for the price you want. So that was that and he left.
He comes back the next day and drops off the alternator on my driveway without no one home. I get home and see it and give him a call. He says
that he took the alternator to Kragen to test and they didn't have the correct bracket or the plug and all this bs. So I ask him did you test it? He replies, well no.
I say okay, here's another alternator brand new not rebuilt but completely brand new from the casings to every single internal. I put it on the testing machine and it charges like it is supposed to, no regulator deffective light on or anything. I test it a few more times so he can make sure.
Then I tell him to leave the stock cobra pully so that he can see if it works now. But he disagrees, and personally I couldn't care. I put his aftermarket pully on it. He takes it and then in the afternoon he calls me and tells me that the alternator doesn't work.
I ask, what does the car do? He says "it doesn't start, when I put the first alternator it started and now with this one it doesn't start even if I jump start it with another car and car has new battery, then he says that I don't know how to fix alternators and all this bull shit. After he said that, I gave him his original core with all fucked up internals and give him his money back and told him to kick rocks.
I hate messing with people like that. If the car doesn't start AT ALL, I doubt it is the alternator, maybe the starter or maybe something else but I have sold hundreds of the same alternator with no complains in years. God how I hate ignorant people and especially when they try to talk shit to you even when you are giving them a deal.

Seriously, I may not have sold many stuff on here but people that are from my area know the quality of my work. I just gave him his original alternator and his full money back, and told him to delete my number from his phone. He was all mad saying he knew a guy who would do his Cobra alt for 40 bucks and all this other bs.

Sometimes you just need to refund a customer and tell them to kick rocks. You did the right thing.

Yeah, that always seems like the best option. I checked his alt and the diodes were fried and so was other parts. So I know that in the end he'll end up coming back asking for you're help but I'll just politely reply "Sorry man, go with the guy that said he'd do it for 40 bucks"

you did do the right thing i own a mechanic shop in vacaville and it seems that the cooler you are or the better the deal you try to give the more fucked you get in the end, give an inch and theyll take as many miles as they can, unfortunately now i stick to book time on a job and my hourly rate fuck shavin time or money when its never appreciated, i think that 9 out of ten peoples favrite line is "well im kinda broke right now so gimmie the best deal, and ill send ALL of my friends" when the really mean "how close to free can you do the job and im still gonna bitch and try to get it for even less" if dude comes back dont tell him kick rocks.....give him a kick in the rocks (just make sure he within your property line and yell somethin like " STOP GET BACK" first and your covered)
