most dealers wont take anything 10 years or older. if they do they wont give you much for it. you would have to try a indepent auto sales place

You won't get nearly what it's worth, they will give you stock bluebook.

First, yes dealers will take modded cars... no problem. and doesn't matter if it will pass smog... I traded my old 97 GT in with an offroad x-pipe and they didn't care...
Second, I got $1,500 for my 94 Z28, 80k miles, HCI, stalled and spooled, back in 2001 on a trade-in at Future Nissan, and i had to lie my ass off to get that... The car was at home, and they were so desperate to make the sale they agreed to take it on trade without seeing it first... i told them it was immaculate and ran fine, actually it was leaking coolant and overheating (warped/cracked head) and had an unpainted front fender and oxidizing paint... gutted interior, no radio... but after the papers were signed, didn't matter...
anyway... so i'd say a dealership would offer you maybe $500-$1,000 IF they'll take it at all... they're picky about cars over 10 years old and over 100,000 miles...
i agree your best bet would be a small privately run dealership.

Come to my smog shop. It will fail the smog so the state will give you up to $1500 to retire it. The least would be $1k guaranteed but if you don't have a big income they will pay you $1500.
