I saw sparks comming from the tire as I tried to drive to work in it. So I came back home & took it to the closest mech, & this is what we saw when the drum was pulled off!!

I was told its for the emergency break & to keep the 2 side springs apart in the hooks! It fits under the cylinder boast.

There is probably a million of cars at pick n pull with those drums/parts.... Super easy to work on.

Posted by 9cobra7 (Member # 2812) on :

That's not that bad, most shops are $100 an hour minimum. So you got parts, labor, diagnosis and the shop has to make a buck so not that bad. I thought it was some sort of a big rip off or something.

If your gonna complain about the price you should have done it yourself. Nothing is free.

This. You didn't get fucked, you just paid someone to do work on your car. If you're hard up for money, you should have done it yourself. Brakes are like the easiest job in the world to learn to do.

Cmon now we know shops should only charge like $20 for something like that, not a penny more, you've been raped, I hoped they at least used lube, you may be able to press charges.

HAHA, maybe in Tijuana. I'd like to see a shop stay in business for $20.00 and not a penny more, lol. [worship]

LoL me hard up for money? Not lol I guess you missed the whole point!! I was in a bind in San jose no tools available so I just dipped in this shop & 7 hrs later this is what I got for 11 min of work that was my point. I paid it & drove off but still felt wow I got hit. If I would of new that this was it I could of pulled this piece out & kept going but It was sparking in the drum & with no tools I didnt know what happened! Just seemed like a lot for what they did!! They had a full service brake special for $75 so I almost paid double & didnt get new breaks!! Thats the point fellas!! Wow u have to love CAfords for jumping in & throwing out BS most of the time.

The part used is a freebee at the junkyards. ....At the parts store its probably bout 20-25....its not difficult to install it. You can do it yourself.
***The part is called an equalizer bar. When you apply the park brake it equally applies pressure mechanically pushing both shoes against the drum to hold the vehicle or at best emergency stop the vehicle. ***
