Yes my Doberman got into a fight with a german shapherd. Both Dogs were ok!

My new house is about 50-75 feet from the road on a small private side road. The guy claimed that my dog was on the road and scared his dog. I called BS since the fight took place in my garage.

End result, the dobi went to the hospital, the shepherd bit his ear, the shepherd was bleeding out of the side of his face. Both dogs were good just small cuts.

QUESTIONS for the cops here:

What if I would have shot the dog, he was in my garage?

what if my dog was hurt bad?
what if my dog hurt his dog bad?

Just thinking about the laws, but overall I was proud of my DOBI, he held his own (he is realy friendly and I didn't think he had it in him), oh ya the shapherd was 2-3 times his size!

The reason I'm sharing this story is that my kids were outside playing and you never know when something bad could happen, I can't even imagine what would have happend if my dog wasn't outside???? so please becareful and watch your serounding.

i dont see why you dont have the right to defend yourself and your family from a threatining source which is btw on your property. i would think you would have every right to do what you need to do to keep yourself especially your kids from being attacked especially on your property...

It's your property and the dog was trespassing. You have to protect your family first. Although I think the owner meeds to be punished for being irresponsible especially since the German Shepard are one of the easiest dogs to train and socialize.

Correct! The guy claimed that his dog got out of the leash (I call [BS flag] ). My dog was off the leash, on my property and like I said the main road is about 50-75 feet from my house.

Im no lawyer on cop, but if I was 1 of 12 in the jury box, I would have found you not guilty for one count of discharging a firearm in protection for the safety for you and your family.

........another note. My buddy lives in socal, where his two pits got out. They live on a huge ranch with other ranchman. one of the pits came back with holes in him. The other never returned. They were shot because the property onwer was protecting his live stock. The ranchman/farmer was never charged. In your case when kids are in play, the cops would have came out and gave you a high 5 for the point blank head shot.

my cuz just killed his neighbors dog the other day, shit attacked him when he went to dump his garbage and he asked the cops if he could kill it, if it happened again.. and well the next day he killed that shit. his neighbors never had the dog on the leash, it was aggressive and it was on his property. i woulda shot it no problem if i had kids outside too. you have to protect your fam.

I went through this with my local animal control. I have a large german shepherd ahd the neighbor has a small and medium dog that are very aggressive and are always getting out of there fenced dog run and attacking people. The animal control officer stated that even if the dog is on your property it must be in a fenced area or there can still be penalties for you or your dog if it hurts another dog badly. If you have it tied up in the front yard on a long lead and the fight occurs on your property then you are ok as long as your dog was supervised. If you happen to have a gun on you, then it is ok to shoot the dog, if you go in and get the gun, then you may be in trouble. Hope this helps, i usually just spray the other dogs with a hose. Glad your dog is ok.

I was kind of scared since both of our dogs weren't on the leash, It was a dangerous situation since my kids were out, but thats why the DOBI was with them.

My gun safe is in the garage, I would have gone for the gun if I didn't see the other dogs owner running and trying to grab his dog. I have told my wife, if the kids ever want to play in the front yard, be sure to take a gun out of the safe and leave it on top of the safe.

What is this world coming to?

That sounds like the biggest load of shit I have ever heard, since when is someone forcably entering your house not enough cause to defend yourself with a firearm, if you chased out out the door and shot em down the street then yea you might see some time,

Op if u live that far from the street and the other dog was IN your garage with your kids out there or not if you woulda shot that dog with a ligitamit firearm you would be in the clear.

Seriously ca does hate guns but self defense is self defense, they may try and give you shit for shooting the dog but nothing that will stand up in court against you or they may try and give you shit about your die not being tied up but again nothing you couldn't take to a court.

The fact of the matter is that dog was in your garage THREATENING your well being, with your kids being in the area gives you all the more right

i don't know if you've owned them before but my last two were very defensive around other big male dogs when they reached around 2. Both were family dogs around small kids and other small dogs.

there is a lot of conflicting advice, i live in el dorado county and asked all the questions to animal control. I would recomend calling them to check sac countys laws, because chances are we wont be on your jury. Like i said i was told my dog being off leash in my backyard or on a line without supervision ( i have no back fence in my area) that if my shepherd killed the dog on my property i would be liable. May not make sense however might want to double check with the proper authorities.

First off sorry to hear about your dog, glad he'll be ok....

as for shooting other dogs, normally most dogs are afraid of water, all you need to do if you are able to is grab the garden hose and shoot the dog with water, this will scare him off without killing him... I think shooting somebody else's dog is a bit extreme except for certain circumstances..

Duke (my dobi) looks just like your dog and your right he is two and the other big dog was a male. This is my first doberman and I love him, he is so friendly and nice with my boys. I do plan on getting another one in the future, but I want one that is a year old and trained like a k9.

I had to stop taking mine to dog parks, he's good with other dogs and people but just bigger dogs and actually German Shepards are what mine got into a couple scraps with. Dobermans are extremely smart and protective of their family.

I agree.. As a adult u have to make the right decision.. In navids case he made the best decision.. Dogs get in fights.. They are a dominant species and protect their own territory so shooting the other dog is a little extreme.. If ur son gets in a fight with the neibor kid are u going to shoot the other kid? NO!!! Now if the dog was attacking my kids then I promise that dog will have a 40 cal bullet in it's head fast! Same as if the kid next door attacks ur kid with a weapon of any sort.. Once again it comes down to the situation and making the best decision as a responsible adult!

if you are defending your self/you famil or any thing you own against a attacking animal and wether you intended to kill it or not the owner of attacking animal cant do anything about it wether is on your property or on the street..when i was younger i was attacked by a dog while i was riding my skateboard and i had my knife on me and i pulled it and stabbed the dog killing it..the owner tried to sue my parents but it didnt happen due to me defending my self..i mean yea i felt like shit for the longest time for killing someones pet but id rather it be them than me

I agree but I also got a friendly visit from an animal control
My neighbors reported me as having a loose dog infront of my yard.keep in mind my dogs was only about 4/5 months at the time.they handed me a hand book with rules and one of them is I must have my dogs on a leash at all time.they
Said I can be fined if iam caught outside even in my property(drive way or front yard) of not having them on a leash.glad your dobi is okay and I bet he was protecting your kids..
