I had this happen to me quite a few times, but I always had a copy of bill of sale & release of liability and all I had to do is take it to DMV with the stamp they stamp it with & cleared me out of it

Doesn't matter if you dont care about the registering the car.
The only thing that can screw you is parking tickets since the car is still i'n your name.

More than just parking ticket, still may try to found you liable for anything that may occur with the vehicle (i.e. fatal accident, robbery, murder, rape, etc)

Nope, the state will take the money right out of your paycheck now if the fees don't get paid. A couple months ago my friend got his check and it was almost $200 short, he asked the lady what happened and she told him the state ordered them to withhold the money. Its not like the old days where if you don't pay the fees you can't drive the car, if you don't pay the fees they TAKE the money. I'd work on getting it cleared up ASAP so you don't get hit for those fees.

Was it a bucket? I would try to contact the seller and let him know if he doesn't register it you will claim it stolen.

LOL lets hope not one car of mine went to out of the country and I filled out the forms and I still get reg things in the mail. Another one of my cars went to texas and I still get that crap in the mail. I filled out there forms and the cars aren't here anymore but still get shit in the mail for them. I just throw them away..

went through a similar situation. dmv lost the release of liabilty and I started getting tickets and even a tow company sending me letters saying I owed them money for storage fees. When I sent dmv the original release of liabilty i never made a copy. I got ahold of someone at DMV and they said to fill out another release with any info that I could remember. I could only remember the guys first name and the city he lived in. Everything else I put in unknown and the date I sold it on. sent it in again and everything went away. this was a few years ago and I dont know if things had changed or not.

a transfer is never fully complete till the new owner reg. it in his name. so you can do everything right and still get things in the mail. what I learned to make sure you have copies

I sold a car to a neighbor and she got a fastrack ticket.... Went over and talked to her.... Gave her the info so she could take care of it..... She registered the car but didn't pay the ticket. I just recieved a 2nd notice for the violation. I sent them a copy of the DMV paperwork showing I sold the car before the violation...... Fingers crossed this shit's done. [Embarrassed]

I always fill out the release online, so they can't "lose it"
