^^^^all of the above..If there is no warranty and car is sold as is, done deal. Usually there is warranty if its a reputable lot but Gl anyhow.

Was it a big dealership? You can look up online dealer fraud. Did they give you any documentation showing that it had an inspection done? Most dealers do a 160 pt. inspection. You can also try talking with the general manager.( not the sales manager) because they won't do shit for you. If that doesn't work, I would contact an attorney and get legal advice.

We just got out of a Lexus is350 because we found out after we purchased it that it was in a front end collision. And they didn't disclose it at the time of purchase.

As stated above, most used cars are sold as is and once you drive it off the lot then its yours. I'm sure its not a big lot because no big dealerships would have a Beetle. Chances are its a little shit lot that buys cars cheap from an auction, half ass any work and cover up problems just to sell it. My friend got lucky, he got a car and financed it through the dealership. It turned out to be a pile of shit but before he had a chance to complain they called him and said the financing fell though so he'd have to come up with more money for the down or return the car. He returned the car and got out from under that chunk of shit.

What engine is it? I've had 2 Jettas and the 2.0 8v motors have a lot of valvetrain noise normally.
