Here's what I don't understand. If they got $7k to give to some cartel willing to half-assed get them across the border, why don't they spend that money and pretend to go on vacation and just disappear once they're here? Get a passport, buy a round trip plane ticket, make a reservation at a NICE hotel for a week and once you step foot off the plane in LA, take off and live illegally like you would have if you snuck across the border.
