I know this stuff usually gets posted in the autox/road racing section but I wanted to shed some light on some SN95's on the track at Thunderhill the past weekend.

Myself, Snakebit, 9cobra7, MtnDew98, and S4oshus were all out there in full force having some fun! I didnt get any pics of S4oshus' Porsche but that thing is a beast! Also, I only got one shot of MtnDew98's car when it was on the dyno [Frown]

In my opinion, this is how a mustang SHOULD BE driven...on the track hitting the turns! This was my first time out and definitely not my last...you guys gotta try this!

My 98 Faleen

Yea, it was a blast for sure JR! I've done autox with my old 96 saleen and it was fun too, but you never get to reach speeds nearly as close to those you reach on a real track! Road racing/open tracking is on another level of FUN! Your IRS will thank you for bringing it out and the KB will have fun openning up on the straights [burnout]

Yea its open track...Snakebit and I were running HPDE 1. Yea, I think they allow pretty much anything that will pass their tech inspection. There was actually a Dodge Ram pickup on the track in one of my sessions [Big Grin]

Honestly I really dont know. I never really paid attention to my speedo. My eyes were focused too much on the track. At one point I did glance down while on a straight and it was well over 100mph...but then again my speedo is off too [Big Grin]

I have only been up to Thunder Hill, and it was in a friend of mines, bosses 318i, with an s52 swap. I remeber looking at his speedo, 3/4's of the way through the straight, and it was at 135+/-.. I almost yaked though because of how much force is on your body going from that speed, down to 40 or so, and hammering back on it up too 120+. Definately exhilerating, more so than a straight track I believe.

Posted by 9cobra7 (Member # 2812) on :

I clocked Ian at 225mph down the front straight, [Big Grin] but seriously its not how fast your going down the straight its how fast through the corners which is the fun part.
Ian I don't remember you popping your hood once buddy, let that motor cool in the pits. I burn about a quart of oil in one day and both my cobras do that on track. Fun day for sure [burnout]

Seriously 225mph that sounds like fun

I bet it was one of those e30 bimmers, right?!?1 Those things fly on the track! Along with the so-called gay miatas...both seem to be very fast cars on the track!

Only 225mph?!?! I swear I thought I was moving faster than that [Big Grin] I actually did pop my hood once after Jay's car overheated...I'll make sure to do it next time, thanks for the tip [patriot] Good times for sure! [burnout]

Was the HPDE hosted by the track? or what organization? I've been looking for a track or Org that's more lenient on Vert's needing a roll bar... i really don't want a roll bar, but damn it i wanna start tracking this car this year...

It was through NASA...I'm not sure what their rules are regarding convertibles, but if I had a vert I'd WANT a roll bar for extra security. Come on out and bring the Saleen to the track [Whoo Whooooo!]

Great pics Ian, was a great weekend.

My best lap time was 2:12.5 and I usually hit about 115mph at the end of the straight. I run in time trials and we race against the clock.

TT is the group after HPDE4, beyond TT are the race groups where its a totally different world.

If you drive a vert you need some type of roll bar.

It's $50 a year and around $200 per day of event.

Do it!

This was a NASA event...my first time out on the track. Don't you usually run with Shelby Club? I looked at their schedule and they dont have many events throughout the year [Frown] This event was $179 and you have to get the one year $50 NASA membership.

there's a great track day coming up at WSIR in socal, $105 through extremespeed track events and it's a super fun track (streets of willow, the smaller, tighter course where basically all the magazine reviews of cars are done in socal).

When is it? I doubt I'll be able to make it down south but where exactly is streets of willow?

May 15th

WSIR is super fun [Smile] They have 3 full tracks there, Big Willow (WSIR race track), Streets of willow - which this event is ran at and my favorite, it's the most technical, and Horse Thief Mile, which they use a lot for drift events, it's kind of like a canyon run with lots of elevation changes.

I've heard that track is fun! I've seen videos of horse thief mile and it looks like a blast, but its a bit far from the bay area. I hope to hit up buttonwillow soon and slowly inch my way further south to willow springs.

Hey check out this think for Thuderhill if you go to google maps and type in "ThunderHill Raceway Park, Willows" you can zoom all the way in street level. I thought it was kind of cool.

Sweet bro! What event will you be hitting up next? I know you've been doing this for a while so I'm sure you'll be lapping me, but it's all good! [Big Grin] I plan to do a trackmasters event at infineon on may 28... Gotta wait til next week to see if I can make it for sure though.

How does Shelby club's mini nats work? Can anyone run? Are there beginner levels/ run groups?
