Would like to hear what YOU would do...given the parts below, what would you build? I'm undecided with the route I want to go with the newest project (Mach 1). Nothing outside of the given parts, keep that in mind...but things can definitely be mixed and matched to work. Let me hear your ideas!

Available engines:

-4.6 4v core aluminum longblock from the Mach (blown HG)
-4.6 03-04 Cobra forged rotating assembly. New Probe low compression pistons, manley rods, forged crank.
-4.6 4v 10.5-1 cr pistons and forged rods
-5.4 Navigator shortblock- forged rods, flattop pistons.

Navigator heads w/ cams, Mach/03 Cobra heads with cams, 96 Cobra cams.

Vortech aftercooled S-trim system.
ZEX Nitrous system,

NA? Blown? What would you build? I'm leaning towards a NA 10.5-1 setup...but a 5.4 4V with a S-trim sounds good too...

Oh man so many choices haha, but I would say in my opinion that the 5.4 4v with the S-Trim will be super fun and some real good power...keep us updated on the build, I love to see these threads of your builds, lots of good knowledge to learn for a semi rookie like me [Big Grin] ...can't wait to see this one done.

-4.6 4v 10.5-1 cr pistons and forged rods Has my vote. How much hp if NA?

N/A is bad ass but expensive, I've loooked into this route and it is possible to go 10s n/a but is ridiculously expensive.... I would go with boosting the 5.4, don't know if your going to have clearance issues tho

If you don't mind the work, I'd do the Navigator long block with mach 1 heads and 10# s-trim w/aftercooler to start off with. I think you'll have to change the pistons if the pistons are different from the Mach 1. If they are, you might be able to use the Mach pistons as long as the bore is the same on both.

I'd be interested in the numbers when it's all done.

5.4 block, I could go either way with the heads. I know the navi heads have a larger intake port, that would be good for boost. But the port shapes and velocities are much better on the newer head, I think volume would be of greater importance in this build rather than shape. Deff run the 96-98 cams if you can. The other cams are lame... I would go 9-9.3:1 if you can as well, to keep it peppy out of boost. You could bolt a Mach/ 99-01 cobra manifold on with no issues, so you're covered there. And if it was me, ide use the Mach exhaust manifolds and port out the exhaust ports on the 5.4 heads (if u go that route, you'll see when you get there). Of course gasket match everything. On 10-13lbs, pump gas I don't see 550-80 being out of reach. Not to mention much more lower end tq with the added cubes. Should be fun....

Laughing with gas is fun but I'm happiest being blown [Wink]

Love the thought of a 5.4 S-trim, but two things...the increased weight of the 5.4 (not a whole lot) and the hood clearance. I've done a 5.4 2v setup and made my own Shaker brackets, but has anyone seen a 5.4 4v in one?

From what I've seen it won't clear a GT/Mach hood. I believe the 03/04 cobra hood clears any aftermarket hood will clear. I've also read about people doing K member spacer plates to drop the whole front end down.... Lots of info on 5.4 4V swaps on mach1registry, search Birdman941....

That would be a blast. The added expense of a tubular K member and a full (decent) kit is the reason I haven't.

The last car I put together that wasn't supercharged was sometime in 2006...lol.

John there is a great reason you haven't put a car together without a supercharger since 2006, you don't mess with a successful formula, whi h you have! Go big and go blown or go home. And in your case that would just mean pull out one of two bad ass cobras. But yeah man boost, boost, and oh did I mention BOOST! Keep us updated bro. PS, how was LV?
