In college when I was 190, I was maxing 335lbs.

Today, I have no clue as I have not maxed in 5+yrs

I have put up 405 in a 2 rep max, I have also peaked at 29 reps with 225 but destroyed my left shoulder in the process. Weighing 195 at the time. Have sinse moved away from bench. That exercise serves no practicle purpose what so ever. Stick with incline dumbells, dips and flat bench flys. My S&C coach had me on the BFS workout which I have stayed on for years now. Form is everything.

Typically yes. Nowhere do more powerful bench presser hang out than on the world wide web, rolf.

The other fun one is hearing different definitions of what a "rep" constitutes. From my view it's all the way down so the bar touches your chest, and all the way up so your elbows lock.

Over the years I have seen several people try to convince of of some pretty amusing definitions (ie, going halfway down claiming it's not proper form to go all the way down to your chest, lol)

Ya.

Look at it this way. I lift everyday. I've lifted for awhile. If you can bench 300 lbs, you are definitely in the upper echelon of benching strength.

Go to Gold's Gym, 24hr, etc. on a Monday evening at 530 and the amount of people in the entire gym that can put up over 325 is still about 10-20%.

With that said, more than 65% of the members on this board can put up really close to 300 or more..

Hmmm.. LOL

On a side note, I do need a lifting partner. Anyone near Citrus Heights or Roseville lift at 24hr??

If your gym has 10-20% of guys in attendance who can hit 300lbs on the bench, you have an unusual amount of beasts working out at your gym.

I go to 24hr in Walnut Creek and Oakland (Broadway) and I'd estimate that less than 1% of guys who frequent the weight room can hit 3-wheels.

Oh ya.. I was exaggerating the 10-20% to make the 65% statistic from this board look ridiculous.

But you're right it's a might smaller sample.

Yup that's how I got so high on the bp my trainer taught me to stay away from the bench and use a workout ball and use the dumbbells and go slow 3 full seconds up and 3full seconds. Down using a much lighter weight but controlling the weight and balancing your body and strengthen your core at the same time but was always curious where I was on the bench so I threw 350 lbs on there and had my trainer there to spot and hit my chest and went up easy and I reped I hit it one more time thought wow that was easy but then my trainer said that's enough back to your routine

not true. Although I do vary my workouts. It also depends on your goal and technique. Bench is actually a very effective exercise. I would not advise to stay away from it.

330lbs realy is not a big deal when you weigh over 200lbs, when your benching twice your body weight then you can start to brag [Cool]

when i maxed out at 415 in high school it was at the richmond ymca it was crazy there was this guy that worked there and man no homo but that dude was a great workout partner he was the type that when he spotted you he would yell and pump you up to get the weight up so the energy was crazy i had hit 315 15 times with him a couple days before and he threw on the 4 plates and i knocked it out and i felt i had a little more and we threw on the 5's on each side and i hit the 415. theres a few guys that know me that were there so no need to lie here ..haha

When I slap 5 plates, best believe it will be on youtube. I was almost there, there broke my finger, which made me alter my grip. 3 plates is not worthy of a youtube spot. 4 plates maybe. 5? Hell Yes.

I do 3 sets of 10 with 225 on flat bench and Im still dont look like it and Im a fat ass, even with losin weight.

I maxed for the hell of it a week ago cuz my workout partner is a beast and I put up 315 twice so I consider that my max.

Im 286.4 lbs as of Thursday when I weighed myself before cardio.

On a side note my brother that passed away was 245 and put up 495 3 times.

Good way to tell if someone is full of shit is to make them tell you their entire routine.

Hard to make that shit up.

Also cant tell by looks there is this dude that goes to my 24 hour in fremont and he looks like a fat pud and works out with 315.

Then he leg presses over 650 lbs. Machine will barely hold the weight.

See I'm an honest guy. For all you claiming 200-400 I envy you. I destroyed my shoulder at 18 and lost a hockey scholarship. I at the time was 185 benchin 215 I'm now post shoulder surgery 265 lbs and bench a max of 185. Shoulder surgery takes a huge toll on your arm stability and support.

In my 15yrs at Golds Gym I have only seen maybe 5 people do 315 or more the correct way. I have seen many people think they are doing 3~6 plates on each side, but the way they do it = posers

Sub 200lbs dudes are usually the ones doing the 3~6 plates this way too...lol

I myself never max out or do flat bench at all.

I do workout with 225 for 10~15 reps on the incline for 4 sets.

When i was into lifting i did 120lb dumbbells 10 times. That was cool. Right after i did that i got into fire and haven't looked back. Kinda lifting now while my knee heals. Might get back into it but i like running and hiking now. Being huge isn't a good quality for a firefighter.

I never bounce if that is what you are referring to....matter of fact I go to slow some say. But I had 3 plates fall on my chest due to going to fast and hitting the return because was trying to show ff and rip through the set. So I go hella slow now. So slow to the fact that some say I can possibly do more. But that sh*t scared the sh*t out of me. So I like to control the weight, even when I am doing low weight like 225.

Beleive it or not that you are doing better for yourself by going slow.

People like to haul ass through their reps like 75% of youtube videos show but you didn't really do any working. Going up is only half the battle, a controlled drop is just as much a benefit as lifting it.

That is a lot of weight for incline press with atleast 12 reps.

I only incline 185 4 sets of 10

You'd probably get me with that to be honest..

Lately I have been obsessed with shoulders and back. My goal is to military press 225. On incline bench I can hit 225 about a good 8-10 times.

I agree. Looks can be deceiving.. BUT.. Some of the people on this board that say they put up that weight I guarantee NEVER have.

Anyone who has developed that sort of strength has a good amount of muscle mass. Some of the people who have these big claims, I've seen at meets and they are scrawny as hell.

You should probably post your routine and a video. LOL

Sub 200lbs dudes are usually the ones doing the 3~6 plates this way too...lol

I myself never max out or do flat bench at all.

I do workout with 225 for 10~15 reps on the incline for 4 sets.

+1

Everytime I'm at the gym I see at least 2 guys doing it.. The infamous: "elbow bend technique"

175lb dude.. 275lb on bench for 10 elbow bend reps. LOL

If the bar doesn't touch your chest your not doing it right.

100% agree, I was just telling a dude today about that. He does some weird 1/2 way down thing on bench and military press. He was saying his way is why he was stronger than me....lol.

That is my biggest pet-pieve. People load up the bench with 315 and I have seen up to 6 plates on each side done the same way, but worse.

Half way or 2in down then back up, yes that ridiculous.

Then with a spotter in the middle and two on the sides they all 4 rep out one or two reps. lol

Benching all the way down is a must. [patriot]

Also people the do this and have their grip so that they are essentially working tris irritate me too..lol. I have my grip so my forearms essentially stay perpendicular to the floor. And I have long arms so that is sometimes near the returns.

im at about 300lbs(bouncing the bar off the chest with momentum helping and arms bent at the end of the upward motion)

with proper technique im at 1/2 of that but cuz i like to boast big numbers, i choose to go w/ the 1st technique. feels good to know im pumping big numbers.
