So I'm tired of breaking my back every month to pay this expensive @ss Comcast bill. Its ridiculous that I'm paying close to $120 a month for basic cable & high speed internet.

I have been seeing that dish network is offering their "Americas top 120" plan, including local channels for $24.99 a month for 1 year. After the 1st year it goes up to $39.99, but that is still cheaper than the $59.99 I am paying to Comcast for their "Digital starter package"

Anyhow, I have never had dish network, so I don't know how good their service is, or what hidden costs they have on top of the $24.99 plan?

Anybody have any insight to help me make my decision, because out of all my monthly bills, this one bothers me the most to pay...

EDIT: I did call Comcast & got them to drop $25 off my total bill for the next year, but I still don't think thats enough...

I did call them & threaten to cancel. The dude dropped like $25 or so off my bill for the next year, but IMO thats not good enough.

I haven't looked into Direct TV yet?

I have had Comcast & Dish. Never really satisfied with either. I switched over to Direct TV 2 years ago. It's better than both of those. Especially if you like sports. You can also program your DVR with your Blackberry or Iphone. Its come in handy when I forget to set a recording. If you play any Fantasy Football, you can program your players & teams right into the on screen menu, it will save all data and always give you updates. Direct TV now has on screen Apps just like a Iphone. You can access these while watching any channel. They also now have video on demand & PPV in 1080p.

make sure to go threw the channel list and see if dishnetwork has the channels you like or had on comcast... i believe we had to pay an extra 5 bucks with dishnet to watch the kings..doesnt have bravo, oxygen and speed with that package. if you get the dvr..its free but they charge 5-7 bucks for service a month. if you decide to go with dishnet make sure to call dishnet (alot of third party adds rolling around)and make sure you get a dishnetwork installer (tell them you only want someone to come to your house with a dishnet van) third party installers were a headache for me..

Thanks for all the info guys. I like sports, but I don't really care to get anything extra, I just want all the good basic channels like ESPN, MTV, Speed, TLC, Spike, Discovery, animal planet etc. I want the cheapest plan that includes the basic channels. DVR, & HD don't really matter to me, I just want to save money.

how much is a basic Direct TV plan including local channels?

Maeco, wave broadband isn't available in Sac, only West sac, Rocklin etc.

fuck dish network. ya you have like 120 channels but that dose not include local channels. and outta the 120 channels, 80 of them are commercials selling shit. or there will be the same show on at the same time but on different channels [Mad] and on the "PREMIUM MOVIE CHANNELS" it shows hella old movies and they get plyed over and over again. when i say old movies... im talkin like smokey and the bandit 3 and tombstone ect.

No matter where you go, you'll be paying close to what you are now in the long run for the level of services you subscribe to.

Your best bet is to put yourself in the Comcast triple play... $99 a month for cable, phone and internet. Otherwise, take the discounts for a year.

Dish sucks and are damn near going bankrupt. I have DirecTV as well (just for the Sunday Ticket), and it's ok but you'll miss On Demand. Stick to Comcast [Wink]

unfortunately comcast is the best bang for the buck... jus like with cars.. u get what u pay for. fastest internet connection hands down.. plus now u can watch most of everything online anyway.. and heres the real closer. NO CONTRACTS. jus keep signing up for promotions to keep ur bill down. try that with AT&T or dish.. which by the way both sublet services from each other since they cant provide cable tv AND internet by themselves. with dish services u usually have to purchase the equipment(including the dish on the roof) and when ur stuff goes bad well, good luck. comcast u rent everything and when it goes bad they swap it right out.

FTA is no longer fun.....but it was while it lasted. (Free Satellite).

just like rigo said...its a deal if you get the comcast tripple play. i signed up at the comcast table at frys $99 first year, second year $109. only if you sign up at the store, not bad. i compared against u-verse($150/mo.) and went with comcast cause it was a better deal. Sales person even threw in Starz package. if i were you, id tell them you're thinkin of switch to u-verse or satellite and try to get that tripple play promo deal. good luck.

Miss on demand? I have direct tv and have VOD video on demand. That's what the 2 ether net ports are for in the back of the receiver it also enables the 1080p. You can now network multiple rooms with 1 DVR.

Can't compare the two...

DirecTV On Demand = 4 cylinder foxbody

Comcast On Demand = Whippled 03 Cobra

I had DirecttV for 5 years and dropped them because we wanted a DVR and they wanted to charge us $200. We threatened to cancel and they did not care. So we canceled and went to Dish Network to recieve the free DVR. It has been over 3 years with dish and now they started to charge me montly equipment fees for equipment that is over 3 years old. Lately they had been making mistakes on my billing. Calling and getting through is another pita! So now I am about to cancel Dish and go to comcast. Bottom line is if your an existing customer they will not take care of you. They all just concentrate on new customers.

Comcast.

The trick with comcast is every 6 months or so call them up and ask for the latest going special and they will put you in it. Been doing that for years. Also their internet cant be beat.

DirectTV [worship]

i gotta 4 room install, free dish, free 2 hd dvr, free 2 regular boxes. and only pay $54.99 a month for what i was paying comcast $120 a mt. HANDS DOWN, better HD quality too. Also once you get used to the features of the box its like no other. for example when youre watching any sports channel you hit the red button, and you get a scoreguide of whatever game was on. theres also a channel with 6 sport channels on at once. not to mention NFL Sunday ticket! checkout the channel listings online, i got the second channel line up. O yah, the DVR works so you can watch whatever you recorded in any room, hella memory too.

Comcast FTW! I just hate houses with dishes hanging on the sides of their houses...and if it gets windy, good luck! I'd say Comcast for sure [patriot]

I didn't read everything everyone said so sorry if this was already mentioned but I have ATT Uverse (and have had both comcast and direct/dish tv) and ATT is better then all 3! Comcast has great service but is expensive, and dish and direct make you sign a 2 yr contract and att does not

Comcast internet is the fastest most people can get in contact with hands down. Less waiting more fapping!
