So I finally made up my mind and decided to jump into a 32v mustang. Although the Bullitt has always appealed to me, I've always wanted a 32v motor and what better than to have the sexiness of a white sn95, with a Saleen's appearance, and a cobra's performance! Sooooo..I opted for the best of both worlds and picked up a 1998 Cobra Faleen. Its pretty much stock with 4:30 gears, genuine Saleen kit and wheels, Borla Saleen exhaust, Recaro seats, MM lower control arms, a laundry list of maintenance (ie: Remanufactured heads by Ford dealer, clutch, rack and pinion, etc.)

I "plan" to keep this one in the family for a while...my wife said "I actually like this one," so I think it'll be hard to let it go [Big Grin] Let me know what you think [patriot]

Yea, when we hooked up he was with his boy (with dreads), but the owner was the "swol" guy with short hair. I think his name was Trey or something.

And yes, I got all the paperwork for it [Big Grin] So did you check it out when it was for sale?

Looks F'n clean Ian. Keep this 1, because man this 1 tops all of your previous rides IMO. I like how the grill still has the pony badge & not the snake badge in its place. I always thought the pony filled the grill area better than the snake. Those are 2000 R seats too aren't they?

Thanks Dustin...yea this one has it all in terms of performance and looks. I seriously think I'm keeping this one. My daughter saw it and liked it too...and she's 3 yrs old [Big Grin] Plus, my wife said she likes it, which is a first even after all my other "clean/nice" mustangs in the past...so yea, it's a keeper. Yes, they're 2000 cobra R seats. (its funny, the guy i got it from was like,"yea, I'd throw some leather on it. These are uncomfrtable, but its up to you..." HAHAHA, i was like yea, I wish you had the stock leather seats instead [Razz] Like I said, dude didnt know jack shit about the car...all he knew was that he had binders full of receipts from the original owner [Roll Eyes] )

I plan to do a couple things to it but not much...it'll stay tame [Wink]

Did you ask him how the hell it was making 400+ HP? lol.

Did that car have white wheels on it before? Theres an exact twin running around forsale, cobra saleen for 11k. It looked so sick at the sierra college auto fair, i must have sat there for 10 mins starring at it. People probably thought i was a vegetable.

No I don't think it had white wheels before...I have pics of it dated back to 03 and it looked exactly how it does right now. Although powdercoating these wheels white has definitely ran through my mind...we'll see though.

Yea, i think the sn95 Saleen's have the best look to them! I have some plans for it but they aren't going to be extensive at all...

Short-term goals: I'll be painting the tail light bezels black, possibly getting smoked headlights, possibly install a Saleen windshield decal, possibly tint the windows

Longterm goals: CAI, X/H-pipe w/ hi-flow cats, MGW shifter, MM/Griggs suspension

I really want to keep this one tame and streetable. I plan to DD it and I'd hate to run into "hot rod nightmares" that occur with highly modded cars [patriot]

Thanks Brian...Definitely gonan do the tail lights within the next few weeks. As for teh windshield banner, i have to try and find a place that sells them that look as good as the genuine saleen one.

Stock motor or not, that looks to be a very nice car. I'd drop the front a 1/2", but besides that looks great!

DOHC FTW!

hahaha right on bro! Yea, I don't have the time and energy to be dealing with modded cars right now. I know mods are what everyone wants, but driveability and streetability are what I need. Maybe one day though [Big Grin]

As for being real, I'm not even worried about it being a clone. It's actually built better than my old 96 Saleen that was "real!" [patriot]

Right on brotha! Yea, so far its the best one I've owned. I plan to keep this one around for a while. It has 117k on the ticker, but A LOT of shit was warrantied (I have all the dealer service records), ie; heads redone at around 60k, clutch around 80k, tie rods around 80k, rear end around 80k, etc...Its a runner for sure! It has some springs in there right now but I dont know what they are...I'm trying to find some nice H&R's to dump it a little bit.

Let's hit up the mustang homies and get a nice cruise going through the 4-corners/alice route [burnout]

I want a more raspy sound rather than a deep tone. Do you guys know which catetd x/h-pipe would give me that?

Your's is probably really loud because its an offroad...i'm looking for one with hi-flow cats. I'm trying to stay away from the fuel smell and obnoxiously loud x/h-pipes [Wink]

The H-pipe should not be causing the "crackles"
What mufflers you got and are there any changes in the diameter of the tubing throughout the exhaust?

ian..u cant lose with a nice true x crossover w/ cats with a magnaflow or borla catback. im assuming yours has borla already. in terms of brands id go with either a magnaflow flow x or even the upr depending on your budget w/ the upr being the cheaper of the 2. avoid SLP!!! the price for their SS catted x is pretty attractive but the converted will sit so low to the ground that you'll scrape even on the smallest speed bumps.. believe me, no matter how how much you adjust them with a jack they'll still sit pretty low...been there done that.

Thanks for the info Alex. Yes, I have a Saleen Borla catback right now with a stock h-pipe. I'll look into the UPR but I definitley want one that sounds raspy rather than deep.

I also want one that fits well...I've heard of h/x-pipes that are a pain in the ass to make fit properly and they end up having exhaust leaks.

I have a bassani x pipe with high flow cats. It's def more raspy but still very very mellow. I'm not running the intercooled tail pipes. No fitment or leak issues for 8 years now.

Yea it's a 331. From what I read it will sound raspier than mine which is what I think you are going for. Especially when you rev up that modular.
