my mother got laid off in oct and she claimed my 4 nephews and my lazy ass sister.now if i tryed to do that pluse my mom since she doesnt work and head of household wtf would happen?it should show that none of these people are being claimed correct?or does it have to be a certain amount of time that they havent been claimed within that year?and if so what about the little time that they wernt?

I don't know if this helps any, but I tried to claim my mom on my taxes cuz shes been laid off all year. I was told I couldn't claim her because she had more than $3,500 in income last year. If you have a tax person you go to, I would ask them.

Have to have them over 6 months in order to claim them .

I believe if they are already claimed you wont be able to do it again. I think that they use their social security number.

from what i understand now is not the time to be changing your exemptions/who you claim. you want to do that in october

your exemptions that you claim during the year through your employer are just to help you out so that you dont owe at the end. If your mom hasnt already filed her taxes this year I say you claim your sister and her kids. Do not claim your mom since she probably worked a good amount in 2009. So go do your taxes and tell them you supported your sister and her 4 kids in 2009. You will get a total of 6 exemptions which equals to 21900 in tax deductions, plus head of household deduction which is 8350 i believe. Hit me up if you have any questions.
