yes i know how some of you feel about a chevy engine in a ford but im not building this car for your enjoyment. car specs its a 93 coupe has a 16 point alston chromoly cage full subframes mini tubbed narrowed 8.8 has reinforced battle boxes has a pa racing tubular kmember and a arms front and rear coilovers. fiberglass hood and decklid. uncut factory doors with pw pd all stock glass (windsheild not installed) has flaming river rack custom steering column with quick release. the engine is a 468bbc 454 bored over. all forged internals 14:1 compression has cast rectangle port heads that are ported and polished oversize valves triple valve springs 1.7 rockers on intake 1.8 on exhaust. mechanical roller cam big lift. will make around 700-750 horse all motor. car has a 2 speed powerglide. im using motorplates to install engine but the company i bought em from sent me the wrong motorplate so i had to send it back.will have more pics soon. well the engine in it now is hopefully gonna b used for 1 season then the real work begins!! car will get a fuel injected 500+ci aluminum headed bbc with a single 100mm turbo hopefully making 1500hp+ funny car cage addition 9inch rear running 7:50's. if you look at the 10.5 outlaw mustang most of them dont run ford engines and ill tell you why. to build a big displacment bbf its costs$$$$ no one makes an aftermarket block like dart/world the machining costs involved in a big stroke and bore bbf is ridiculus. you will easily spend $5000 on ablock that only produces around 520ci when you can get a dart big m block that will produce 700ci for $3000 i love fords ive had a ton of mustangs but the exspense to go really fast is too much for me. if i was building a street car it would have like a 408 with a procharger or somethin in that nature. i respect any car/bike thats fast cuz i know what it takes to get there!

Are 3rd and 4th gen Camaros that bad of drag cars? I have always wondered why people put the Chevies into Fords. Now I am NOT knocking your build, but if I was a Chevy man I would build a Camaro in a 'heartbeat.'

But the fab work looks great and it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. Best of luck.

One day I plan on doing a '65 Elco with a Terminator drivetrain and a 9", just to average out all the Chevy powered Fords. That is going to be great.

Did you price out the 2 routes? And if so (and im not being an ass this is to inform me) how much was the difference in costs between bbc and bbf?

I like the build on the car except the engine. the ONLY reason I said anything was becasue the incorrect info he was giving on the price of a 460 engine builds. I gave you a example of a cheaper Ford race block then he quoted. I was also 100% corrrect on the car build as far as tech. He mentioned 7.50 ET I was just cluing him in on the rules so he could prepare for them...he got pissed.

first of all i dont need to be clued in about anything. i dont care what you know. what your book says. your not the only one thats building a car. i didnt ask for your advice. yes there might be a ford motorsport a460 block that you claim makes 600ci. but besides a bore for displacment, you cannot fit a huge stroked crank in that block without additional maching which costs. a big m block accepts a 4.50 stroke crankshaft.a 460 has a 3.85-inch stroke stock. a 454 stoke stroke is 4.00. the bigger the stroke in the block the more machining it is that simple. if you want a 4.50 stroke in a 460 which is possible it takes alot of machining it also uses a piston with a really high pin height that makes a bad angle on the piston at bdc. which makes oil control on the rings bad. this is ok for competition not for bracket racing. the reason you get big displacment out of the a460 block is because you can bore the hell out of it it has solid casting in between the cylinder bores. no water passages between. the max bore on that block is 4.600". unlike most of you i own chevys and fords im pro american. i just happened to have this motor laying around thought it would be cool to dump in there for now. i have a ton of bbc blocks heads parts etc. like i said i dont care if you like my car cuz theres always someone who doesnt. but dont assume i dont know shit. cause you never know whos car it is and what they have done. ive been around racing my whole life (drag racing) if you have been racing for a long time you would know earl clark. thats my uncle if you dont know him you havent been around. im from oakland i remember the greats doc finnely the hardy boys my dad owned one of the fastest camaros in oakland. i got mad cuz i dont like being told i dont know shit. you plagued this thread with your stupid crap. no one likes a smart ass who tells you what you already know. and for the boxer guy you might think you would say somethin to me but you wouldnt. its all talk on the net. you wouldnt have the balls to disrespect my car to my face. sorry to everyone else on this forum that gave props to the car/build my time here is done i dont have time to waste arguin with bafoons on the internet. this 69-91 guy is the reason i dont post anything. good luck to everyone with whatever projects and builds there doin drive safe out there. if any one is interested on any info or help with anything pm me or if you want build pics pm me thanks.

Ah 40th actually I would. Its not about disrespect its about personal opinion. I have never censored my opinion via online or in person. But you did fail to address my actual legitimate question. This is for myself and to educate the others on the board. Between the bbf and bbc what was the price diff?

And to srt I still have the car. Its still a paper weight in the drive way. I have the top end pulled off with the motor coming out soon for replacement

2nd you do not no shit about BBF engines stop acting like you do. You can get a stock block to stroke out to over 540 cid with very little machine work. A A460 will go 600 with very LITTLE clearence issues at all. Absolutly NO more machine work that a BBC. Do a litle reasearch stop talking out your ass.

I am not jealous of your car lol I wouldn't even own a mustang with a BBC so it doesnt even enter into the convesation.

I will say it again I like your car idiot not your engine choice.

WOW geez theres no end to this guy. he really doesnt know anything. im gonna guess you have never had a 460 built or built one yourself. i on the other hand have a 460 powered jet boat that i had built and ive been through it. weighed options on bigger bore/strokes. aluminum heads big cams. a 460 is more exspensive than a bbc. in all factors trust me i know i dont have to explain to you all the reasons why. its called experience not reading builshit online and studying product pages.get a life dude. check the link and the price. $15,000 for 800hp its a basic bracket engine nothing to extreme 520ci. the other link a comparable bbc 20 more ci . 825hp $11,000
so i dont know bout you but more cubes more power $4000 less bbc all the way. i didnt post this to argue. i posted it for the others here that arent in to big block stuff. jon kasse is one of the best ford engine builders in the world. and scott shafiroff is one the best chevy builders in the world.

If you really want to learn about 460 fords and not come across as just a ignorant asshole try here www.460ford.com look at the tourqe difference between those two engines. That is kind of interesting the ford is 20 cubes smaller but kills the chevy on tourqe and comes close to amthing it HP

I never said BBF engines were not more than a BBC I was disputing your 5000.00 dollar block claim with only 520 cubes. You wrote it down not me. Wow you own a 460 jet boat I guess you really are a expert

you are 100% wrong on the machining work to go 600 cid with a A460 block. That is what I have been saying the whole time. It takes no more machine work than a BBC chevy aftermarket block. period. You just dont get it for some reason.

I didnt think I had to explain to you that there are stroker kits made to go into a A460 block. Yes you have to bore it just like any other block(thats pretty much it..) Same way you would bore a BigM block to get max cubes. So if you are paying 3000.00 dollars to get a block bored can I be your machinist? you said 5000.00 dollars max 520 cubes. In reality it might be at a max 2600 for 600 cubes. So that means your right ?

good point r1 i just started this thread for other peoples enjoyment. not to argue about the process of building big ci bbf and bbc engines. 69-91 already plagued this thread with his b.s. so im just not gonna respond to anything he says. whether hes right or wrong. unlike him i have things to occupy my time that are positive not negative.


so build update: the rear end is gonna be put together soon. hopefully ill drop it off at scotts speed and custom in antioch this week. im just waiting for the axles spool and ring n pinion to get here from strange. if you guys dont know scott hes a really cool guy that knows his shit. they build anything from drag bugs to full out tube chassis cars. he narrowed my 8.8 for me. i had him take off 2.5" on each side. he straightened the tubes and completly welded the tubes at the mid section. they also installed early ford 9inch ends so i can eliminate c-clips and c-clip eliminators.they are a dealer for alston stuff. those ends use a big bearing so u can uitlize the actual size of the axle tube and go up to a 33 spline axle. the bearing is pressed on the axle and uses the brake caliper plate to hold the axle in the rearend.initially i was looking at a strange rear brake kit.but i dont wanna pay 600 for the kit. so i ordered some north race car brackets for a big ford end using sn-95 brakes. the cool thing tho is sn-95 brakes are a 2.50 offset and strange sells a kit thats also 2.50 offset so if i wanna upgrade later i can without getting new axles or the old ones re-cut and re-splined.ill post some pics when its done and back in the car. oh yea ill be running 4:30 gears

yea its mini tubed im only running 28X10.5 but they used to stick out of the wheel well and i didnt like the look very much. it was limiting my ride height and coilover adjustments. ill get some pics up. i did it myself. i just cut the old wheel wells out and the shock mount i removed all the brackets on the frame i had to section the frame in the rear because it tapers out. i believe i have 16inchs in the center 14 in the rear and 17 in the front of the well. but i am using the stock lca mounts on the rear so i can prolly fit a 31x12.50 without any issues. it took me about 4 days to do and about $50 in materials. the exspensive part is getting the rear end narrowed

OK so maybe as a mediator I can ask all the duck hunting lovers to start a duck hunting thread and stay out of this guys build thread. some of us actually want to hear about his rig.Thanks. I also own a home in shingletown but I am not posting it here ..oh wait... lol
