Need your input.
I have a 3 car garage and I am thinking about doing a lil make shift paint booth on the small portion. My question is what are you guys that have or are painting in the garage doing for ventilation? I was thinking about building a insert that fit under the garage with it almost closed with some box fans rigged up to pull air out. But I am guessing I need to pull air in too? It needs to be something temporary as I only plan to do it on a rare occasion(s).

When I painted my car in my garage all I did was open the door and put a fan facing out. Just make sure your compressor is out of the garage. Wet the floor before you paint and just have fun with it.

What kind of spray gun did you use? Must have been a topshelf one with little overspray. I do airbrushing in my garage and even when I do helmets the fumes get bit harsh.
But thanks for the input.

n8 I've seen nice paint jobs come out garages . Just crack the garage door open about a foot and if you can have a side door cracked open. Just use a 1.4 size gun and you should be good . Wet the floor and make sure you use a good 3m painters mask.

What gun did you use? And what size Air Compressor? Did you use the same gun for primer as paint?
I am semi familiar with the process but will be learning a lot as I go (my son will be doing it with me).

In high school we painted in a garage open garage door and put visqueen (thick plastic) filters from osh and cut opening for the filters in the pastic, taped up the filters on the plastic, and a bunch of fans, wet floor and it came out pretty good, but from seeing that coupe looks like that car port is a mobil booth.
Posted by 92 ssp (Member # 8013) on
:
yeah its a mobile booth but its call a portable car port

I already have a partition (portable) that I built out of 2x4 and will staple some heavy gauge plastic sheets to it. The rest of the garage is sheet rocked.
I think that should due

Did this in my garage a few years ago. This was my first and i plan on doing another couple some time this year. I wouldnt say its prefect, but it better than macco. If you plan on doin soild colors, my advice is to take the car apart and paint in sections (not so much fumes for the neighbors to snitch)

i dont know about the city of stockton, but from talking to a lady from the air resources board she told me your allowed to paint one car a year in your garage as long as your not doing it for profit...yeah i got snitched by my stupid neighbor and the lady came knocking real quick..this was in san jose when i used to live there....

I would primer/paint in the middle of the night so people won't be awake to snitch.

If your worried about the fumes use a water based paint, everyone is switching to water based now anyway.

ab supply in Fremont ,they were one of the first to sell auto color, airborn paint,I've sprayed water based paint and the only draw back is that you have to spray in thin coats, and is time consuming, unless u have heaters in your booth, that helps too
