I'm going to be in the market for another car in about 6 months. So hers my choices. 03-04 cobra, 03-04 Z06, or wait a little longer and get a brand new Z06. Maybe a used GT500.

I'd buy used rather than assume the greater chunk of depreciation. Are you cashing out or payments?

Posted by F1R/GT (Member # 7404) on :

Large down and a small payment. The payment thing is to help build my credit back up. It kinda got destroyed a whil back.

Why not be the first one on the block and get an 2011 fitty?

Posted by BULLITTMAN (Member # 8468) on :

I would go with the 03-04 Cobra, it's the best bang for the buck and you can find one for 20-25K or less dependiing on the mileage... The payments will be small if you have a good size DP and you could use the extra cash for mods...

Hers the other thing... I have a mustang that only runs race fuel. I'm scared that if I get an 03-04 cobra I'll go overboard again. I'm really liking the Z06 plus I'm already kinda dooshy. Lol

Chugabrew: I work on elevators, I don't live at home with my parents. I do live with my girlfriend who does make a VERY impressive yearly salary so she doesn't charge me much to live with her. He he he.

Hhhmmm. A GT500 with the Hellion twin turbo system doesn't sound half bad.

IMO, save the money from the TT kit and drop it into the motor/tranny/ rearend [Big Grin]

Well not everyone makes peanuts, he's buying a decent used american muscle car, not a brand new aston martin, give him a break so what if he has nice toys.

Just went through a similar dilemma...
I was considering all those options myself (except the pricey C6 Zo6), and got really close to getting a C5 Z06 but figured that that model would be considered old soon. Vettes are also a luxury car so after a few years they're not so cool anymore. I ended up with an 03 Cobra because of that and because I didn't want payments.
If you don't plan on any other expensive endeavors, I would go with the Shelby. Reasonably priced, and you don't see too many around.

news flash..there are some ppl on cafords that can afford decent cars and still manage a normal life of bills, mortgage, vacations, etc lol

to the original poster, id go with the best vette u can get w/ whatever money u got. when u start to get into the upper 30s or 40s you're already in vette territory. u already have a fast mustang so why not try something else that is more balanced like a vette.

ZR-1 would be AWESOME!!! but they probably won't be produced anymore by the time I save up a down payment large enough to buy one. It's gonna have to be Z06. Or something in that price range.

out of those cars i would get the c6 z06, just the best car for the price. even if u get a cobra to be fast as the z06 the suspension nor brakes or chasis compare to the z06 and plus the resale price on the z06 would be better than any cobra.

Save your money or buy a car you can afford. Your young, don't pay for housing yet, and you may or may not have kids in the future. Either way I wouldn't live beyond your own means because for now your girlfriend pays your rent. Borrowing on a used car is not a good thing to do, especially if your modifying that car. Pay off your bills, add to the 401k or start a 401k. By slowly saving what you can now, your future will be much better. If you have a blue collar job and don't save your money wisely, it will be very hard for you to retire comfortably one day. Read about money management, one of the most talking about bad decisions young people make is borrowing on a used car, "small payment or not"

Thanx for your concern. I'm actually 35 an I've already owned 2 homes. I'm in a union and have retirment and an anuaty account and investments. I'll probably be fine.

Id go witha C6 Z06. You get nasty power with dependability. You cant beat that.

Congrats on the elevator union. I thought about taking a job with them. However, my body is not built for that physical work.

thats excellent advice but often difficult to follow for the younger folks cuz at that age theyre living for the moment and not thinking of investing in the future.
when i was in hs it wasnt too difficult for me to decide on financing a car even though the payment and insurance were nearly half of what i made monthly. when i think back that was probably the most foolish thing i did cuz it limited my choices as far as what colleges to go to since i was busy working fulltime to pay for a car. i cant even think of considering buying some of the cars being thrown out here even though im pretty comfortable financially but id prefer investing so u can have more of these toys later when youre reaping the rewards of your investments.

back to topic....go for the vette if u have the funds.

No doubt. I dont think I will ever have a new car in my life or finance one over 10k. I will definitely own a bad ass car when I am in my 40's / 50's.

Go C5 or C6 Z06. There is no other comparison for a dependable SPORTS car for the money.

400-500hp stock that you can drive every day.

Just buy an old muscle car and build it up, why wait until your 40/50 to have a badass car. Fuck new cars. I just have a bunch of old cars and they are all badass. i won't be getting rid of them ever either. Once the FB is done i am either buying a large amount of land or a house if i find one i like.
