Well I think I found a house we are gonna buy. It is huge and is on a lot of land but is in the boonies in a orchard. Aside from that culture shock, it has a septic tank and well water. My question to ya'll that have experienced this type of living how is it? Is it expensive to maintain? Does it stink? Any pros or cons?

I normally am not cut out for rural sh*t, but 54k+ lot and 3.5k house for dirt cheap may be too much to pass up. But the whole septic and well water thing is like ....uuuuhhhhhhh.

as long as its kept clean. Supposed to clean the septic about every 7 years. What kills septics is a lot of food going through the garbage disposal. Try to compost more often. Get it cleaned before you move in.

You will never notice a properly maintained septic at a house, doesn't stink. I have one at our house and we're on a private water table.

I can just see Farmer N8 on a john deere.

for reals....I already saw people riding ATV's to check their mail. I am trying to find out if any of the orchard is port of the property. Its a trippy situation to live in, but the house is hella fat/phat. I have 5 boys so I have my own work force to maintain the property...lol

Grew up at a house with septic tank and well water. I never smelt the septic in the 12+ years i was there. And for some reason i prefer well water.

Yea I am gonna talk it over with the kids. The trade off is where we are now they can walk to the mall, skate park, school, store, movies...plus the wife and I are by our favorite bar..lol. We would leaving all that behind if we moved out to the sticks.

Kinda sounds like Green Acres, now you just need a talking pig! I'd roll in there with your system bumping and the windows down givin everyone hard looks, then go over with a gift basket and introduce yourself..... throw em off a little bit!

I live up in the hills where every house has its own septic and wells, and actually my g/f runs a well drilling company. Now does it only have a septic tank without a leach field?
If it has sit for any amount of time going unused they tend to have problems once in service again.
As far as well water goes, I think you just get used to it. Some wells have awesome clear great tasting water, that you can lather up in the shower with. Other well water taste like crap and you need softeners and fancy filtration equipment to make useable.
