I know some of you have or are serving too. Are they really that unreliable? The M16 has already been in service since Vietnam and they still have jamming problems?

i hear they jam often i can belive we send our troops to war with such peice of crap...

i heard their useless in the desert.

that why i love my AK, shoots no matter what u do to it. you can fill it with sand/mud/water/rocks run it over with a tank it will still fire.

the only time mine jams up is when i got a faulty mag. you just to make sure to keep it clean and dont use too much clp in the desert.

I served before and the problem is that it constantly needs cleaning or you go to the "failure highway". Those guys need something more reliable. Although I hear that the "piston actuated bolt carrier group" can yield better reliability.

If I was outhere I would buy that system.

Bottom line the M4 is adequate but not the best for dirty/dusty environments.

If you clean it religiously after every firing most guns won't fail but 1,000+ rounds crouched over a sand dune is a different story.

Shit after I fired my friends M4 after about 1,000+ rounds the 14" barrel was so hot the vertical grip burnt my hands. So gloves are a must!

The AK47's are like Glocks, very reliable. And my AR15 only jams when I put low quality ammo.

That's why you build a gas piston upper and have a super reliable rifle that's more acurate then an AK

Keep it lubed up and it won't jam. Its not as reliable in desert combat but still works. My brother kept a condom over the front of his barrel in afghanistan.

Ruger 556 for the win, so far that thing is an amazing gun and is piston assisted

true, but you gotta be careful about over-lubing it. In Iraq, I met quite a few who'd pour oil all over their bolt, only to have it collect the iraqi sand like it was a sticky piece of fly paper
