If anybody needs paint and cant afford a $3000 paint job. I paid just under $1000 for 3 coats of base & 3 coats of clear. Extra glossy! Here is an example of what can be done by Maaco in Fremont on S. Grimmer. That's right I said Maaco. My buddy's uncle owns the shop and told me if anybody that gets referred off of this site "they will be taken care of"! Here are some pics before and after. The owners name is David

Hey Jay your car is looking good! Did you do the sanding and prep work or did they? Did they bondo all the little dings and dents? How well did they mask your wheel wells, exhaust tips, etc...I've just seen too many maaco jobs that came out half ass due to poor prep work.

they did the prep work too?

Did you do the prep work yourself? usually they do VERY little prep work. just a few scuffs here and there and thats it. Did the fix the little dings etc? I would like to see the paint with some better quality pics but it looks pretty decent from what i can tell. You cot 3 FULL coats of clear for under $1000?

thats amazing if you only paid $1000 considering a full paint job and prep. with materials alone ud be at 200-400.. what was on the car when they painted and what was masked?

i got my sn95 painted recently and had the shop remove everything that was removable(i.e bumpers, a pillar, new locks, handles, faux rear brake vent behind the door, moldings, skirts, etc) but obviously i didnt pay $1000.

I forgot to mention a friend and I knocked out most of the prep work. The before pics is how I dropped it off to him. I sanded the whole car with 400 and he did the minimal body work (door dings). I also removed both bumpers, spoiler, lights, side moldings and badges. he did do another sanding job. but all those little things add up quickly. If i had to guess i probably saved myself $400? No overspray on rims or exhaust. you have to mention that you want your front/back window moldings pulled back or they will just mask them. I took some tools with me, parked down the street and took of the bumpers, etc. etc.

I dropped it off on a Saturday and got it back that Thursday!

That makes sense then cause I know they do minimal prep. You did a majority of the work yourself and they just sprayed it.

If you have an inside man, Maaco can defenitely take care of you, they do enough work, they do know what they are doing, wether you pay them enough to remember how to do it is another story lol. I might have to go see him when i get my camaro re-sprayed.

yeah mine needed some serious prep done. lots of door dings and my front bumper was ripped and cracked. We were able to bring it back to life. I painted my roof and hood myself about a year ago just so it wouldnt rust over the winter. I guess i put it on extra thick. [Eek!] He told me this after they painted it and it made his paint bubble. He was nice enough to strip and respray with no extra charge. Im sure he would have charged somebody else. It always helps to know somebody. I have a couple of small blemish's that i wasnt really triping on, but he told me to bring it back in a couple of weeks and drop it off for the day. He is going to wet sand & polish them out. I do think if you go into any Maaco you will get a "Maaco paint job" but if you know somebody or get a refferal and you know they do good work, thats what you will get. I havent stop smiling since. [Big Grin]

Looks good bro... Thats 1 of the best maaco jobs I have ever seen...

I have to disagree about installing the 96-98 tailights. The 94/95 lights are what set them apart & let it be known they are a 5.0 car... Plus they look sick at night...
