I just brought her home tonight. She's a 1966 K code (271hp solid lifter 289 4V) coupe with an extremely rare C4 automatic... appears to be somewhere around 250 produced with this combination. I have to do a little more research but the car is matching numbers and only 137K original miles. More pics to come once I get her all cleaned up!

Nice car!

Did the vin come from the door tag, or the fender. The reason I ask is I've never seen the C scoop trim on a K code car before. Also, the car seems to be missing the GT badging on the front fender.

Regardless, looks like you've got a clean car.

I know what you mean. I paid $13.5K for the car. I've seen people asking more than that for clean "C code" 289 2V cars.

Both the fender and door tag VIN's match. On K code cars, the block and tranny are also stamped with the VIN. All the numbers match.

As for the GT badging, that was an option package and not all K's were GT's. Interestingly enough, this is a pretty bare bones, low options car. For starters, you could not get AC or power steering with the K engine. This is also a standard interior car. The only options the car came with are the automatic, a remote mirror, and a center console. The car even originally sat on stock steel wheels with hubcaps (which I have). It looks like the car was probably special ordered just for the drivetrain.

Thanks, guys! New pics up top! I've barely had a chance to mess with anything yet. The car is completely undetailed and needs a lot of clean up. There are quite a few items that I'm going to change as well. I'm getting rid of the ugly quad exhaust tips, putting the original steering wheel back on, and I think I managed to find a properly date coded intake and the correct carb.

Unfortunately, the rallye pack is not original and has a cheap Sun Pro tac in it. The stereo is a Clarion but at least they didn't cut the dash. I do have the original AM radio.

Progress pics posted. Big thanks to my buddy Scott who owns Heritage Customs. He did all of the work on the car.

He installed a new gas tank and sending unit, cleaned and repainted the trunk (including getting rid of some surface rust), and reinstalled the stock steering wheel.

Under the hood the car now wears the correct hipo air cleaner, a "clone" hipo Autolite 4100 carb has replaced the Holley 750 DP, a new fuel pump and lines, and the battery is back where it belongs. He got rid of most of the ugly wire mesh hose stuff and did a little paint work as well.

I also just had the exhaust redone from the manifolds back. The 20 year old pipes on the car just weren't cutting it.

Next on the list are new seats and a dash pad.

Purplenotch was a nice car, especially after all the suspension and brakes were done, but I got tired of sinking money into a car and not getting it back. I can put money into the K, improving it little by little, and have the value go up accordingly. Plus I bought it for about what I sold the '87 for... a complete steal, way under what the car is worth.

True that Dave I sunk over 20k into that engine bay and only sold that car for 11k... It was a fun build but it took me quite a few years to get out of that hole even after i sold the car.. really should have just kept it since it did cost so much $$ to build. Nice old school btw much better having some value! Good luck on the project. [patriot]

Thanks, Shaun. Good to hear from you. I will keep chipping away at the fastback too. That's my big money pit.
