I went to get my 2000 Grnad Prix GTP smogged and it failed. Car has only 64000 miles on it and runs great.

Cas for first test has aftermarket computer. Smaller blower pulley and High flow cat. Stock two cat exhaust removed and replaced with single hi flow cat.

Test as follows

TEST MPH %CO2 %02 HC MAX HC AVE HC MEAS
15MPH 13.97 1.37 52 9 8
25MPH 14.00 1.42 36 7 7

TEST MPH CO MAX CO AVE CO MEAS
15MPH .49 .02 .15
25MPH .46 .03 .13

TEST MPH NO MAX NO AVE NO MEAS
15MPH 424 57 706
25MPH 711 50 660

Second test re installed stock computer and put stock pulley back on. Hi flow H pipe still on.

TEST MPH %CO2 %02 HC MAX HC AVE HC MEAS
15MPH 15.1 .01 52 9 10
25MPH 15.0 .01 36 7 9

TEST MPH CO MAX CO AVE CO MEAS
15MPH .49 .02 .20
25MPH .46 .03 .24

TEST MPH NO MAX NO AVE NO MEAS
15MPH 424 57 648
25MPH 711 50 507

So NOX lowered with stock computer back in but not by enogh.

I also cannot get a difinitive answer if adding an additional cat will lower nox or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ERic

Did you say that you put the stock cats back on? because if they are not the 3 way cats then i dont believe they help with the nox emissions, also is your egr system working properly? otherwise it looks like your car runs pretty well, sorry if im wrong about the cat thing but im just going off memory. let me know

Edit: my bad its a 3 way cat haha

something is definitely wrong with the egr system. 2 cats wont help that much. egr temps goes up when combustion temps go up. first i would check the egr valve and make sure its working and that the cooling system is in good shape.

Cooling system works great. Car runs at about 180. Any tips on how to check EGR?

Thanks for the input.

If the egr valve is vacuum operated get a vacuum hand pump on the nipple and with the car at idle pump it up to close the valve and the motor should sputter and maybe even stall, if it does this the valve itself is working.

most GM egr valves that i have seen are now an electrical motor and you might have to get a manual for their specific procedure
