Getting quotes this week for a home security system. What are you paying and what does your system consist of.....when I say consist of I'm not asking you to map out your shit just asking how many sensors you might have...such as EVERY window? and price.
I'm looking to get all entry doors, garage motion sensor, all window sensors. Wireless systems only.
I've heard more bad stories about ADT and Brinks than good. Any other companies out there you'd recomend. Also thinking of planting a different sign in the lawn that what I actually have installed so would be thieves wont know what I have.
Also does your company require password when they call to check on a tripped alarm? How do they verify it's you?

i do not have an alarm but i hear a lot about what alarm companies are good and bad. i do agree with you i often hear more bad then good about brinks and adt but i do take that with a gran of salt cuz they are so big thats bound to happen. the company i rarley hear complaints about is Bay Alarm. a lot of my clients use them here in san leandro. i am guessing they must be good. i hope this helps.

We have platinum on both of our properties. Their prices are very good. What I found is that ADT, Brinks and all of the basically use the same Honeywell equipment and the call centers are pretty much shared (from what I have learned). So price was my determining factor (oh yea and Platinum gave us a light up sign to put our front...lol). I basically pay 30 per month I believe (gotta check). And the install was free due to a special. But where they try to get you is on the sensors and stuff. So if you can haggle good and you house looks decent you can get the guy to throw some in for free or reduced cost. I have every door and window that opens sensored. I have motion sensors as well as some shock sensors on windows. One gotcha tho. Is check with your permits office. You may actually require a permit to have a alarm installed. I found out the hard way. I also installed a home security system that I can check remotely online. So that and that gave me a nice reduction on my home insurance.
Good Luck
Oh and yea when the alarm is tripped they basically call you through the system speaker. And you give them the password if everything is cool and it was accident. If you give the wrong password or dont answer the police come and more than likely will kick down your door...lol.

Thanks...
I'm avoiding Bay Alarm too because they are expensive and I deal with them at work. Their equipment is always breaking down here at work so I don't think I'd use them for my house.
Newark PD station is about a 1 min. walk from my house. So I'd hope response time wouldn't be too long. I'd also hope they would try the door before bashing it down, shit...lol.
Thanks for the advise

Try out sonitrol. My boy works for them, they might be more on the corporate side of things, but a great alarm company either way. Based in SJ too.

Try to get every sensors installed on every possible point of entry, windows, doors, garage doors, etc.
Voice monitoring systems such as Sonitrol are excellent!!!

if you really do the research by far brinks is the best alarm there is. less faults alarm and they do have code word to verify that there talking to you or not wireless wouldnt be such an good idea dont matter what company it is. battery go out and your screw they also come out at no cost to qoute you what you want.adt is by far the biggest alarm company and rated the worst because they deal with sub contracter brinks dont i only know cause i work for brinks

found who we are going with
$450 installed...includes frist month and tax for the pacakge. Whole house is covered, smoke alarms will also be monitored and if the land line phone line gets cut then there will be a cellular backup. Some of the package will be wireless and some of it will be hardwired. Monthly will be $39.00 because of the celluar backup otherwise it was going to be $32.00
Company is not ADT, Bay Alarm, Brinks or Sonitrol. I'll be sleeping better at night

I am a Northern California alarm rep for Monitronics, we specialize in audio monitoring. My system is completely wireless, All equipment is free with a $69 activation. I'll have to check on the cellular back up but I know I can get you installed for less than $450, probably half that. Monitoring would be $39/mo. If you would like more information feel free to call.

Thanks,...turns out the total install with activation will be $299 and $32.99 a month. The $450 would have been with smoke detection, tax & first month monitoring. I took off the smoke detection and the guy only charged us partial tax. BUT it goes in on Friday so we'll see how the story changes at that time!!
