What is the easy way to strip it, without sandblasting??

Permatex gasket remover in a spray can.

My friend had success with that aircraft paint removal stuff. But it was messy as hell.

gasket remover or even better kleen strip aerosol cans from the hardware store.

Spray it on, let it sit a few, remove with a metal paint scraper. Repeat if necessary. Final coat I used Kleen Strip and a wire brush. Touched up with a green scotch brite. Wear gloves and glasses. Shit burns like crazy. And makes a huge mess!
