That man is very smart, hes taking away the excuse some black folk use as a reason to be failures. Its reverse phsycoligy, White people dont make 70% of black fathers leave their children right? If a black person "THINKS" emphasize "THINKS" white people are holding them back, then low and behold they will be held back... Take away the blame and they are just a normal U.S. citizen.

Did he really just say boomshaklaka??! HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm not even commenting on the rest of it. I have my own thoughts on matters like that and I don't need them to be picked apart or misconstrude by any type of "folk"

For the most part I agree with him. But then in a way I don't. He left it too wide open. What he speaks of goes well beyond racism. What he says applies to sexism as well. You cannot say what you want either about the opposite sex, for fear of outcry or the chip on the shoulder being knocked off. His message seems almost secret agenda based. Personally I do not dig the way this dude puts it. Now the way Bill Cosby puts it, is real and uncut. I don't fully agree with him either. But for most part he is right on.

I like Bill's talks, because he acknowledges the race card. But he speaks of way to neutralize the race card. And how as a race our personification of it (the race card) helps hold us back as a whole. And those talks and views are on par with what my grandfather raised me on, and what I now teach my kids. I would be lying if I said I didn't have the chip he speaks of on my shoulder. But my difference is I turned it into a friend, a tool, and not a target. What this guys suggests is that it does not exist, that is where he loses me. But as he suggests I would rather see people speak their minds around me and risk the reaction than bottle it up and spew the garbage behind closed doors. Does way more damage there.

But all in all, I see no need for offense.

Well Im glad nobody's offended then. Because this guy usually has off the wall info. He's the obama hater.

That is the part where I part ways with his philosophy. I am from the south. The deep south. And it is a completely different ball game there. Completely different. So the generalization cannot be made on a global scale. Because in some areas it is just a step above the "Mississippi Burning" days. In those very areas there are some serious set backs based on skin, gender and national origin. Peep how I added other forms of segregation/discrimination. It is bigger than black or white. I can understand the impoverished soul and the struggle behind it as I grew up really really poor. And it is as easy to pass judgement as it is as easy to say it is very hard to see the forest because of the trees. But like Pac said "And they say its the white man I should fear, but its my own kind doing all the killing here". It is that truth where I understand this dudes (and Bill Cosby's) point. But you cannot say the inequalities do not exist. To say so is just ignorant. And anytime inequality exists, you can all but assume a uneven playing field.

So here is were it differs, maybe you will get my point but not being white probably not, maybe that "chip" on your shoulder will blind you, who knows. If I was a poor white kid living in Oakland I wouldnt be able to have a corner to sling my rocks on as they would kill my cracker as in a heartbeat, but since I dont have a "chip-excuse" on my shoulder because my daddy told me to work and not blame anyone for my mistakes I came up with PLAN-B get the hell out of the ghetto, find a job and work. I hope you will see the correlation between Oakland and the South. You may of had a chip on your shoulder but Im sure you never used it as an excuse to quit-maybe try harder but not quit. Not every white guy back then had slaves and many white people lost their lives freeing slaves, but those facts are easily left out when teaching children how to carry "chips."

Like I said, you may miss my point, and it appears you did. None of the above happens to white folk as they are all born ahead of the game, I mean, dont I have a college fund just because Im white? Fuck NO! I get nothing except the idea of "work for it" from my father. Did you not comprehend the correlation between Oakland and the "South"?. Dont play dumb. If my reply was so stupid please explain why.

Im gonna vote for Obama just cause Im hoping to be a Canadian resident soon but people must look at England and Africa as a backround source, it isnt the piece of land that makes a country its the people. The U.S. is going down and going down fast... People are bitter, jealous and hateful, we werent like this 20 years ago. Enjoy our downfall. P.S. Gun ownership is good!

Actually no I dont understand the co-relation as I have lived in both places for a long time and they are not the same. Not even a little bit. And your post seemed like it was posted by a person with A.D.D. or a bi-polar disorder. Obama, Canadians, England, Africa, Gun ownership. WTF!. But anyway like I said I agree with this person to an extent. But like I said what he said can be applied to sexism, handicap folks, racism..... Anything where you can be discriminated against.

There actually is one. If you go to your local college and look in your grant book or the large scholarship book. There are scholarships for just about everything you can imagine. Even people under 6'. Get out and look it up.

Oh and hold onto your socks. The UNCF also helps the majority. A friend of mine that went to a black college and is white, got a grant from them. Open your mind folks.

For those on the Forum that think Minorities in this country have equally opportunities in this country are just doltish. When a minority with the same qualifications as their white counterpart receives lower pay for the same job, that’s not equal. When that same person can't live in the same neighborhood as his white counterpart because of higher interest rates, that’s not equal. When this same individual is forced to live inner-city schools that don't receive the same funding as suburban schools, this is not equal. When his kid grows up and gets charged with a crime he did not do, and on top of that gets max sentencing compared to his white counterpart, this is not equal. When this persons son grows up without a father because of the above and his counterpart has a father because of the above, that’s not equal.

For a minority to succeed in this country, we have to put in more effort with less room for error. Compared to our white counterparts. That’s not equal.

I agree with this and I don't agree. There are still some choices that can be made differently in some of the scenarios you portrayed, that have nothing to do with being oppressed. But I do agree that often the climate is manufactured and harbored by inequality (look at Katrina and Jena 6). So it exists. But where I agree with the presenter is that we as a people often use this inequality to further hurt ourselves and as a cop out for the bigger issues, ones which we can control. So yes inequality exists in my eyes. And yes cop outs and ill-advised race card playing does exist. But I can say this. We didn't put the race card in the deck.

I don't know. Growing up we had NOTHING. We rolled the toothpaste as much as any other poor family. We honestly ate spam and top rom, my mom invented dinners out of scrap and it didn't matter if you liked it you ATE what you got cause you weren't getting anything else. We had no money, my mom drove a pea green ford pinto, I shit you not. That was our only car. My father cut out on us, never paid alamony, never contributed, hit us and my mom, broke dishes, doors, windows before deciding to leave. Thats all the mild version,...and I'm as white as they come but we never bitched that it was anyones fault we were in hard times or that there was some minority force against us, we were our only challenge. We learned what it took to make it. Our family worked hard and stuck together and ended up coming out okay. I don't know but this whole white, black, latino, asian bs is fuckin old. Get over it already and find your way that works for you without hurting others around you.

White people have just as many challanges as anyone else. I'm tired of people crying about race.

I'm pullin the white race card now LMAO!

 -

Edit - my thoughts and statements are mine and mine alone. If you agree or not I do not care. I enjoy the company of many types of people so flame if you wish. Also none of my statements are directed at any one person intentionally. I knew this particular thread was going to get a bit dirty and I tried not to comment on race but I have little self control. Actually I love giving in to peerpresure too....hella fun.

I know a opinion is a opinion and we all have them. As we all have challenges in life. But racism and discrimination exists and it is a oppressive force. And you are sadly mistaken if you think it does not. With that being said, I agree that folks need to find a way to make it work. There are choices out there or better choices should I say that can make life easier that have nothing to do with being oppressed. Also this is bigger than black and white.

no mistaken here of its existance,...hence tired of that shit. my situation is different than the next persons. i have no idea what it is to not be a white guy,...or of a kid growing up. I will say I saw the struggles my black friends did have growing up and I always felt they were equal issues. But again who the fuck am I or anyone else to say what is or isn't. I'll be the first to say I could be wrong about shit....what do I know? Just what the world has shown me.

Our country does need change, drastic change of direction. We are moving in the wrong direction and this election I've paid more attention to than any other in the past. [patriot] God Bless America [Whoo Whooooo!]

nah man, I feel you. After all, all any man can really comprehend is his own burden as it is the one that is on order. Nothing wrong with that. But it is communication and compassion that helps a person "understand" the burden of another man. And it seems you have that, so no harm no foul.

And I would implore any of you to volunteer your time if you can at the source of your frustration and gain a better perspective, instead of making gross generalizations.

Open your mind folks.

lol please post a reference to a united white college fund please. Not just a speculation of what you think might cover it? I am talking by name ..you won't find one. You like to make blanket statements facts please. BTW that UNCF comment was for dave50.

N8 you talk about people being held back by race how are you doing? I work with people of every race we all get paid the same for doing the same Jobs and are promoted equaly. You want to talk about people being held back look at the indians before Casinos...

There are succesfull people of every race and there are scum of every race. Some may be opresion, most of it is by chioce. go listen to the preachers Video again. He believes allot of it is by chioce. I cannot believe that most of the black men in jail had no idea they were breaking the law? That goes for every man in jail.....

I am doing great actually (not ballin, but great). I am one of the few that turned what was viewed as a negative and turned it positive. I too have friends from all walks of life and actually I employ a good range of races and cultural backgrounds.

As for the scholarship thing. I am sure it still exists. At every college they have a large grant and scholarship book. Just check it out. It also makes for some funny reading. Because anyone can setup a scholarship fund if you have the cash. And you can make the pre-requisites as you wish (within reason). I know the comment was not for me. I was just informing that something like that does exist, just not in such a commercialized form.

And you are right Indians are getting a raw deal. But at least most receive reparations. So that is some consolation but not much. I do think if we got our just reparations it would be just like that Dave Chapelle episode. If you missed it, watch it. It is hilarious.

Also I am not saying people are being held back, but that racism and discrimination exists that make overcoming a uphill struggle. But the avenues are there. And some are just choosing to not accept the fact that you must try harder to get through it. Thus comes the cop out (that I agree with).

Just reparations? You arent owed shit! Africans caught other africans and stuck them on a boat then sold them to white people, eventualy white people from the north viewed it as injust and fought the south to free slaves. Did you forget that white people already lost their lives freeing slaves? Id say thats just reparations but then again who cares about a dead cracker right. [Roll Eyes]

hahaha....Dave you are pretty much a joke. I never once asked for reparations. Matter of fact I made fun of the thought. And you watched one chapter of Shaka Zulu now you are the modern day Jacque Cousteau? Give me a break. I know you are probably just playing around and trying to get a rise from me. No one can possible be that thick and still know how to operate the internet.

And for the record no one owes me crap. Though I'll take my 40 acres and a mule if offered.

If you ACTUALLY think the civil war was fought to free slaves you are truly ignorant. You should do yourself a favor and read some books on the subject outside of what was required reading in 7th grade. It amazes me how when anyone brings up any type of reparations for black people people get all upset and bent out of shape. I bet nobody made as big of a deal about it when the Japanese recieved "reparations" from the U.S. for what happend during WWII I also bet nobody batted an eye when Holocaust(sp) survivers were given 100's of millions of dollars by Germany. Not saying black folks should be sitting around waiting on some sort of reparations form the goverment but If you truly think that 100's of years of oppression well into the 20th century do not affect people today in some shape or form you are sadly mistaken.

Now, is that a reason to just sit back and blame ALL your problems with where you are in life on someone else? Fuck NO! you still have to get out their and try to better yourslef so that you can provide the best for your family.

I just realized that you are from Lincoln. That explains why you view things the way you do. Their is hardly any diversity in that area

I have a really good friend that lives in Lincoln actually 2. So Dave in no way represents Lincoln...at all. But East Bay 50 put it right. You sound really ignorant at times, with your lack of the full story. read the book, not just the cliff notes.

Just make sure you read more than one book. Every author has a opinion and it is hard for them to keep them out of the text...even US history books [Wink]
lol I wouldn't give somebody a hard time about your opinions on based on where you live. Mr East bay the entire US has a opinion about the polital views of the bay area...

I lived in Lincoln, and there's all sorts of races out there. Most of them make pretty good money, and im sure they've never used the race card as an excuse to not succeed.

Oh yeah,
Boomshakala!

There are choices out there or better choices should I say that can make life easier that have nothing to do with being oppressed. Also this is bigger than black and white.

I totaly AGREE! Hence my Oakland corner scenario! Did we forget rascism goes both ways? Im a white victim! Am I allowed to be a victim? Or shall we just brush it under the matt? If you want to teach your children to hate go ahead, they will just have one more easy way out. With the drugs and gangs are you sure you wanna teach them to hate the "white man"?

Dave I am starting to think you suffer from mild retardation. It's like you see the point but just can't seem to get over the hill of understanding. When did I ever say I teach my kids to hate the white man?

Please take your medicine before you reply....lol
