Has anyone ever had their vehicle damaged at a shop? I took my truck into a shop last sat, and I noticed today all the damage that was done to the wheels they worked on. They like threw them around [Frown] Fortunatly I have documentation on tuesday where it went to another shop for alignment, and they wrote up the scratches. The shop manager today was very rude to my wife and I saying there is no way he did the damage. I filled out a claim, but not sure what else I should do to make sure they replace the wheels. Im thinking I might have to go to small claims?

I don't think there's anything you can do. Had you looked the vehicle over or wheels they worked around and mentioned it then (when you picked it up,) you'd have a case, but two days later? No shot, imo.

See Don I picked up the vehicle after hours at night and didnt drive it because it needed an alignment. See the real problem here is I trusted them. I guess I could go through my insurance too. Hell these guys didnt even change the valve stems [Frown]

A shop here scratched 2 of my wheels on my Cobra. I didn't notice until I had already gotten home, so I just called the manager and told him I'd be driving back down and talking to him. I met him, showed him the fresh scratches(the only ones on the wheels) and he said he'd fix them. He was set to give me loaner wheels while these ones were being re-chromed, but I refused, so he had to make some calls to claim it, but the company cut me a check for 2 new wheels.

Yeah, I'm just saying it's going to be real difficult for a judge to put fault 100% in the repair facility the vehicle was at 2 days prior. I dropped my Mustang off at Ford for some warranty work, picked it up, came home and immediately washed it. Found a large scratch in the front bumper, dried the car and took it right back to the dealer. They knew the car had 3k miles in the year I owned it, saw how immaculate it was kept and didn't challenge me in any way. They made the situation right, which in the end didn't cost them a penny, but they immediately took responsibility. Had I seen that scratch in the bumper 2 days later, I don't think they would have been, or should have been, so cooperative. I'm just saying, you're going to be asking a judge to think nothing else could have happened in those two days.

Thanks for all the help guys, Im actually looking at the miles on the paperwork, and when Costco had it, I had 91471, and on tuesday it had 91494. thats 23 miles that was put on the truck in 2 days. Most of that was driving the truck from San Leandro to Alameda. Also I pointed out to the store manager, Look at the rest of the truck.... The truck is in excellent shape. No body damage, and the rear wheels are like new.Another thing I have in my favor I think is they didnt do a pretrip on the truck.... If I was a tire guy, and I saw damage like that, Id show a manager to cover my on ass.
Im ready for Judge Wapner! LOL

Also when I called on the install, I wanted to make an appointment to have the tires put on. They told me the never make appointments..... Just come on down. So I want down there, and another guy said duallys always need appointments. So I said I understand, but these are only the fronts. (shouldnt be any different than any other car)So after I asked to speak with the manager, they let it in. That pissed them off, so that was the motive. [patriot]

i went through similar shit with a shop in san bruno called hanlons. i brought in my newly polished deep dish 2piece 19" wheels to have new rear tires installed. when they were finished mounting the wheels, i notice after getting home to clean the wheels of grease there were deep gashes and scratches along the lip of the wheels. of course when i mentioned it to the shop manager, they denied everything and said the wheels were that way when i brought them in. needless to say, whenever i bring nice mint wheels to a shop to have new tires mounted i have the installer/manager look at the wheels to verify the condition of the wheels before working on them...

I went to america's tire in antioch and brought My rim's in to have tires mounted "rim's still new in the box" and picked them up and had a couple minor scratches so I asked for the manager and He said they guy who did the rim's had gone home for the day & was off for 3 more day's or some bull shit [Mad] . I told the manager to fuck off "in the lobby with a bunch of people around" and let them know I would never be back. Moral of the story is to point out the condition of the rim's or take pic's BEFORE the work is started.

I know what you are saying, My issue isnt really with the shop, its the employee that treated me unfairly. If I was to do anything it would be to him face to face....... But thats why I have insurance. Jail time wont do my kids any good. If they decide to deny my claim, I will give State Farm all my pictures and evidence I have, and let them go fight them.

1.) The wheels don't look to be in good shape to start with imho

2.) You did not catch them in the act

3.) Normally when you sign at the bottom of the service order, the fine print states that minor scratches or other small damage as a result of technicians working on your wheels will not be the responsibility of the shop.

4.) Unless you photographed the wheels right before they went into the shop, there is no way you can prove that the damage wasn't already there.

No case here. Best of luck.

Well I finally spoke with the claims department today, and they are going to buy me 2 new wheels. This guy caught that these tires arent the correct load rating for the truck and told me to go buy 6 new tires anywhere I want and they will pay for them. He is also throwing in 150 for the red paint on my door. Looks like Costco stands up for their costomers. He told me a certain machine they use caused the damage. I really didnt get into how, but he said it has happened before. I asked him about installing the tires, and he told me just to take it to Ford, and send him the bill. Worked out good after all. [patriot] It will be nice returning 6 tires, and 2 rims to the clown over there that treated me so poorly. Karma!

What costco is it?

costco is usually pretty good.
they scratched my mom's rim and broke the little center piece of her former lancer. we would have never noticed, but the guy walked up to us and said, "here is my card, get a new one and send me the invoice. we'll pay for it."

Costco banks so much money off memberships alone that they better take care of their customers.

Well whenever at my shop we damage a wheel/car whatever we take full responsibility and take car of the customer. We had to buy a new wheel one time because someone dropped one on the face of it.

I got other stories but ill be awhile typing. Basically whenever you get any type of service done to your vehicle go to a trustworthy honest shop. just my .02 glad everything worked out for you.
