Just got back from spending a few weeks in San Diego and I fell in love with the place. The wife and I are considering buying a loft out there. Tho I mainly stayed in the Gas Lamp area (which is where we are looking to buy). Looking for any advice or experiences about San Diego. Are there any other areas we should consider? This would be more like a get away type situation and wont be our primary residence. Looking to stay around the 300k-400k range on the property. We talked to a few real estate agents out there. But I want to get some other views or opinions.

Escondido, and all the suburbs in San Diego are chill. It's like a mini paradise, personally I love Ventura county, not San Diego but damn it's lovely out there....

I've been down there alot cause of friends and the Marine Corps. I fell in love too! PB is nice too and really chill! La Jolla too. Can't beat the weather and housing is a bit cheaper than the bay area. DO IT [Wink]

Yea I checked out LaJolla, I really liked the energy and vibe in the Gas Lamp area. Looking at a loft that has a view of Petco Field. LaJolla was kinda pricey for me. SD was real chill, people weren't all stuck up despite having $$$.

Yea man seriously. The people there were so laid back and the entrepreneurial spirit is alive there. Lots of one off stores and such and not many starbucks and Mc. D's everywhere. I was chatting with a dude at the bar one night, he was hella cool almost blue collar type. Come to find out dude is a multi millionaire having something to do with the padres.

Yea LA and SF stink for that type of atmosphere. Pretty much got our loan. Just looking for a good location now.
