My aunt is looking for a little SUV and she thinks the Escape is cute. Are these cars any good? She found a 2002 with a 3.0L and its a 4x4 SLT. Just wondering if any of you have experience with them and if they are problematic or not, and what your take is on them.

I had one as a loaner car from lexus. Cheap interior, doesn't drive as smooth and felt under powered. Rav 4 or crv might be an option?

Yes rav4, xtrerra and crv are the other options. What in the world is Lexus doing with an Escape as a loaner? I would think they would loan out a gs or something......

I only had the car for 2 days, so I can't say much about reliability. From my experience with the loaner I had, I wouldn't own one to try to find out. But if she likes how it drive, then I guess it be ok.

There is an Enterprise office located at the service center, incase Lexus ran out of their own loaner cars. I had a choice of a 4 banger 07 camry and and the 07 escape. I'm always down to experience new cars so I picked the escape. Now I know to stay away from them

I've heard a 50/50 review on it. Some experienced small mechanical problems, while the other half didn't experience any issues at all. But, I have not heard anyone having problems with a CRV or Rav 4 just yet. I think they are a bit more pricey compared to an Escape. The 3-4 people I know with a CRV paid over 20k for sure.

We used to own a 2002 Escape. We never had an issue with it. Still, if this is for your aunt and she doesn't tow anything, buy the RAV4. My parents just bought a loaded 4x4 Limited. I think they paid right around $27K (E.G. Toyota is really dealing). You can't argue with 269hp and 28 MPG's.

Wife had 2002, POS! Tranny went at 50k, engine was going when we traded it in at 70k. Loud as F#ck on the freeway. Brakes sucked. Cheap interior and paint.

Don't know much about the escape, but I just got a Edge SEL AWD with everything but GPS and leather. Nice car, rides smooth pretty quite, good power. Could be better on the gas but it is an AWD.

If she likes the Escape she should definitely try the Edge, its a little nicer inside and handles a lot better on the road...

ok thanks fellas. Looks like its a NAY for the escape. Its too bad because she had a good deal on it. But I don't want her to get something that's a money pit with problems.
