Sheldon is a very cool guy. He worked on my car quite a few years back. He also welded in his own line of subframes to my then GT.

sheldon is a good man. dont get caught up in the hype. just make sure you and him are clear on what ya want done. should be that way with any shop. tell him to make ya a turbo setup!

depends, turn key? short block, long block, hardware and brand items??? hp target?
I myself have been to his shop numerous times and kicked it there quite a few times. Hes a great guy with quality work imo.
WHEN i get the money (kid on way so probably NEVER) he'll be doing my turbo set up without a doubt.

like mentioned before on your 408 what are you getting for your money? you can have over 6000.00 in a shortblock just in parts no labor no machine work.

bare cylinder heads

I wish I had some of those(6000.00 dollar bare heads) I had to go the cheap route.

Sheldon at BBR is a stand up guy. He has done a lot of work on my car and I have had no problems whatsoever. If your trying to price match then I bet you that Sheldon will be either lower or in the same area as most shops (most shops probably charge more then him anyway). Just the general rule..speed costs money...expect to spend some and you don't want to go cheap....especially on a 408w that will require good heads/intakes (expensive) to make it work.

I have only met Sheldon one time down at the Drag strip his turbo car was very impresive for what it appeared to have. Also all the work was very clean. He also seemed like a very nice person to deal with.

I don't think this was the intent of this thread. Why you got to go and start somthing like that.

My honest impression after having a set of torque box plates and subframe connectors welded in:
1.) He seems very knowledgable about fab work and his welding is superb. No questions about that.
2.) He came across as an honest hard-working guy
3.) He is not cheap by any means
4.) It was a challenge to make a Saturday appointment, but that's expected for a small shop ran by someone that is self employed.
Overall, if you want great welding work, and are willing to pay for it, I recommend BBR.
I can't speak for any other work since that is the only visit I had.

Sheldon's will be tunning my car when i'm done. I do most of my own work but will the tunning to someone who know what they're doing. But I've been there plenty of times to shoot the shi* or pick his brain. If I had the cash he would be installing a turbo kit for me. All I can say if youre going to do it. Do it right the first time or you will be kicking yourself in the ass later.

I would have to dissagree with most here.
I had nothing but problems with Sheldon and 1 of my mustangs. My car sat in his shop for 3 months, and he did nothing, not to mention the fact that the car had all kind of scrathes and scuffs from him pulling cars in and out(tight fit). Long story short I had to pull the car from his shop. Very shady business man in my opinion!

Cobraless implies u have no cobra, possibly no FORD so kick rocks and take ur drama, 1 post and punka$$ elsewhere.
I stand behind BBR and what I say. Got issues still? then u know where his shop is, ill meet ya there
As far as haters etc, AED does great work, many can speak on their behalf, big boy does great work, with many to stand behind them, Diff shops, diff work/quality, personalities etc etc. Id have AED build my motor and BBR do my turbo, but im WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too broke for that shit lmao
Thread starter asked about bbr, not aed, leave it at that. Give feedback on topic. Just my .02. I hate seeing people i personally know bad mouthed.

I've had work done at both places, and you are right, you get what you pay for, thats why I keep going back to AED. Sheldon is a talker, even a cool guy. But when it comes to taking a motor out, building one, and installing it....shouldnt take 4months AND THEN not make the power told it was going to make... Yeah I was told the same thing about him wanting to tune the car because byron(at the time) at mustang ranch didnt know how to tune a car according to sheldon. Anyways I could go on and on about how I got dicked by BBR, but its late or early, time for bed.
Have a nice day!

Now here we go again Byron knew how to tune cars back in the days as the autologic chip setups with the shit back in the days. However once the 4.6 motors came out this manner of tuning needed to change (more variables to deal with the newer mod motors, plus there were not a great amount of aftermarket parts for them).
I guess everyone has their opinions and I hope everyone takes the rock slinging at local shops with a big grain of salt. My feeling is if your going to give a bad rating..back it up with facts and allow the local shops to respond to your posts...

My 98 GT had damn near every bolt on. This was the second time byron had his hands on my car and knew 4.6's pretty well, the second time around Byron spent almost 2 hours tuning before we go the tune we wanted. Tried tuning for my NX setup, but all of a sudden it doesnt work. It worked before i dropped it off to BBR, but now dead! Sheldon has an account on this site, but rarely posts here anymore, probably for a good reason. He has or had my number, we have talked in the past, but nothing really came of it.
Sheldon does have a few nice turbo cars of his own, but how many built or turbo setups do you see at your local track?
BBR has been around longer than AED, lets have a AED BBR showdown to see how many cars show up to represent there/that shop where they have had work done.

whats wrong with that? he is passionate about what he does, and enjoys it. he is a one man shop for the most part and supports his family that way, and for what i have seen does decent work. all shops have bad times....yes no one is perfect. i have seen proline race engines fuck up motors, but does it mean they suck? no. still one of the baddest engine builders in the country. same goes for duttwieller, w2w. but you wouldnt know any of that....WOULD YA?

This post is starting to get a little out of hand. Word of mouth and can destroy a small local business. We all have a responsibility to be very careful how we present information based our experiences with these small local shops.
My family owns a small business ourselves, and sometimes I am in disbelief as to how some people can just rip you apart for the smallest misunderstanding or mistake.
Although I do 99% of my automotive work myself, I recognize that we are very lucky to have local shops like Griggs, Maier, Apex, and even BBR that understand Mustangs inside out.
Many people that don't have experience with small businesses don't understand the implications that tearing a shop apart online can have.
In conclusion, unless you were really done wrong by a shop, be careful how quick you are to publicly publish a negative feedback response. And if you do, have something to back it up with.
Guys like Sheldon, or Bruce Griggs have dedicated their lives and life savings to starting and maintaining their businesses. I appreciate it and am strongly on their side.
Thanks for reading...

I agree, but... If people have a bad deal with a company, they should try to work things out calmly and peacefully first. Set understanding and REALISTIC goals between both parties, and try to achieve them in an upfront and honest manor.
Sometimes when people quote all these crazy things they HOPE they can do its just not REALISTIC. Either parts are not available, knowledge is not there, overbooking for amount of manpower, etc. Problem a lot of shops have is not doing enough research before taking a job. They rather cinch on to the customer before he goes elsewhere because honestly, most customers are way to eager, and are not realistic about how long things takes, possible delays that can occur, and cost of what things are. Yes, shops should be knowledgeable enough to quote the job correctly the first timeout, if they aren't sure, be up front and honest with the customer about that.
Customers are willing to deal with a shop that is brutally honest and upfront more often then a shop that will flower coat it and ream you in the rear afterwards with no vasoline. It's sad but from a business perspective there will always be two types of customers. The Realistic one, who understands what it takes to get the job done correctly and are willing to pay for quality work, and/or parts. Then there is the other customer who wants the biggest bang for a buck, and doesn't really want to pay for what is needed to get things done right. (This is where most problems happen) Either customer wants to cut ends and not pay for things needed (tuning, supporting parts etc.) and the shop not paying attention to this still takes the job anyway and does just enough to meet what the customer pays for. Customer has a problem after, and because both parties not being realistic on what was needed, they have problems.
It's sad, but its a two way street, both parties usually have a part in the problem, sometimes more to one side or the other, but the big thing is that shops and customers BOTH need to be more upfront about what is needed, and what can possibly happen, good or bad, before a wrench is even turned.
Again, this is speaking as a business owner who has watched a lot of other shops flop.

Here is what is important. I see two disatisified people in this thread. There are a bunch more people that love BBR and AED. So what does that tell you?
None of the shops came on here to defend themselves and why should they? Coming on here would be like trying to defend yourself when you are already considered guilty. That just tells you that mud slinging the local shops is so very wrong on this forum. You got a problem with a shop then report them to the BBB. BBB will determine if your dreaming and think you deserve a kazillion hp motor, new transmission, a 9 second street car for free or if the shop left you hang to dry. The shop does have the opportunity to defend themselves (especially if the complaint is bs or not). Just bring your paperwork on what EXACTLY was agreed upon (yes it should be in writing) and explain what was done or not done. If your ducks are in order then your golden. If your just bs'ing a complaint because you didn't get hooked up then it is time to shut up.

BBB doesnt handle situations that deal with automotive shops you gotta report it to the B.A.R. bureau of automotive repair... and they'll do the best they can to resolve the problem .... they helped me a lil and gave me a lot of good info i can use in court ... BUT its ashame that people dont know about the B.A.R. 'cause if you dont post your complaint with them the chances of that shop being punished is slim im the first to put in my complaint with the BAR about HCI tho ive heard so many complaints about HCI its 2bad no one else has,if you have a ligit problem like i do you should get in contact with the BAR and report it...
