so about two weeks ago some new people in the apartement complex had their cable turned on. same day my internet and On Demand stopped working.
To make a long story short the problem is a rotten cable below my apartment that needs replacing. The apartment owner is saying its comcasts responsibility and comcast is saying it is the apartments responsibility. who the hell is right?! i want my internet back!!!

unfortunately comcast is right... its at the apartments expense. they would have to pay comcast to FIX it....

What I dont understand is why it worked and now it doesnt. I'd call and talk to a supervisor and see what he has to say about it. I had the same problem in an apartment I lived in a few years ago. They cam in to connect it and it wouldnt work. The tech said it was a wire but the next guy found a bad splitter in the wall and replaced it.

Things do go bad, just like one day your alternator works and the next it doesn't, it could be you got a bad tech out who didn't know what he was doing, but from your description it sounds as if after your neighbor was installed you could have been moved to a differnet port with more signal loss causing your issue, this is all just speculation. Asking for a supervisor will do you know good, last but not least, if the cable is really bad, it's on the apartment not Comcast.

ALL the cable wiring should be supplied/repaired by shitcast. You shouldn't be paying for any installation and or repairs. This is not like at&t phone lines where they charge you inside wiring repair/fees(unless something has changed) Its would not be yours or your landlords fault that they reused old shitty wiring. Sounds like someone did a hack job wiring your apt and the latest apt they set up. You should also state NOTHING was wrong until they came out and set up the other apartment, threaten to stop service with them
When I moved to my new place I ripped out ALL the old wiring to ensure that ALL the wiring would be new.
Another thing comcast can kiss my ass, shitty customer service and WAY overpriced I cancelled my service with them after 3 years this past June. Look into at&t for cable, phone and internet. They have a KILLER deal for all 3 right now, something like $74.99......

As with most utilities, Comcast is only responsible "to the box." The point where the cable enters the building. Anything inside the building is the responsibility of the property owner.

yea, iam not gonna pay for any of that shit. i just want my internet to work! the only reason i got comcast in the first place is cuz i just had to have it turned on, everything else was already hooked up. this last time when they came out it was a supervisor or lead tech or something.
originally when i first moved in the comcast guy mumbled something abot new wires but i was in a rush and didnt pursue it.

Actually as Hozr said, it's the lanlords responsibility not shitcast's, he or the property owner should be paying for repairs if the wiring is bad. It's not Comcast's fault that the landlord hasn't paid to update the wiring in who knows how long, that's kind of like saying PG&E should be responsible for replacing bad romex that's pre-wired. I'm sure no hack jobs were done since the aparments are pre-wired as well as the other unit that was just hooked up, if they could be wired he wouldn't be typing this post. Depending on who you get when you threaten to stop service, depending on your approach you may just get what your asking for, you may not even make it to a retention rep.
If you like your internet slow, your cable channels on east coast feeds and two year contracts, sign up for AT&T's package.

I have worked in cable since I was 19 I am now 36. I work for a Company called Mediacom and here if the wire needs and can be replaced by a tech it is done to keep the customer. No charges to customer nor the Land Lord. Unless it is a house, if your internet stopped working after the tech installed a new customer more than likely he has both of you on one splitter. You are not getting the right amount of signal to run the internet. So either the splitter is bad, the outlet is bad or a tech/line tech needs to up your signal. I would tell them that if they didn't replace fix the problem that you will go to other company ( if you have a another one ).

You are WRONG,Not to mention that you sound like a comcast spokesperson
I HAVE NEVER in all the shitty years as a customer with comcast had to pay for any wiring or repair to the wiring,NEVER.Apartment or house.
Also my Internet is as fast as what I had with comcast. I don't have "east coast feeds" I actually have legit dish network not some pirated setup AND I can cancel at ANYTIME NO Contract here!
Anything else?

Actually I'm not wrong, just because while you were a customer you didn't incur any charges for repair does not mean that there isn't a fee to correct something wrong inside the house (It's only $17.99), your logic makes no sense, your cable networks like TNT, TBS, MTV, etc are all on east coast feeds, legit or not legit, your internet is slower and there is no such thing as no contract with Dish or AT&T's internet unless it's already expired which I am assuming yours has already done, because you didn't sign up for service without one.

Hey beleive what you want about inside wiring repair
Anyhow as far as Att/Dish is concerned I have the same channel lineup that I had with comcast so I guess that Comcast gets those SAME East Coast feeds then And as far as my internet for what I use it for I have seen NO difference between the 2 as far as speed is concerened. Maybe for huge files or tranfers maybe comcast is faster, I dont use it for that. Also FYI I am a NEW customer Ive only had Dish Network since July and NOPE no contract at all.I can cancel at anytime,so buddy YOUR logic makes no sense to me

your wrong, comcast is not responsable for the wiring IN the house, now if it is exterior cable that may be different but im sure they will still charge you for it. if you want to have cable you have to have it currently at your residense or you can pay comcast to run it.

Weird I have moved 3 times in 5 years and have had issues with wiring one in a house one in a apartment. In fact last Nov-Dec I had a problem where one tv wouldn't get any reception nor would that "fabulous cable internet" get any kind of signal. They (comcastic ) DID finally come out and fix the problem and yep NO CHARGE not even a penny, weird it was INSIDE wiring too.........And it was 30+ year old wiring, well before comcast! But I guess I'm wrong right? Again NEVER have I been charged anything for repairs to inside or outside wiring...........But you go on paying for those repairs, meanwhile I wont!
