I got a couple more months til my kid is here but I need to start thinking bout a bigger truck cuz my tahoe only seats 5 and that's not cutting it as it is I need a 7 seater and something that can tow good and the only things I can think of are excursions and suburbans and just wondering what you think and what years to stay away from ,

My granny got 'burban, not an Excursion.
Gramps got a Silverado, stepside version.

excursion would be my pick...kinda sucks because the diesel gets about 14 mpg and the gas gets about 7-9 mpg.

Try to find an Excursion with a 7.3L PSD in it. They are harder to find but far more worth the wait rather than settling for a 6 uh oh.
I'd say forget the Suburban idea totally if you're looking to tow and get decent milage out of it. Towing with a Suburban say with an 8.1L gas engine you'd be looking somewhere around 8 to 10mpg TOPS with a gas Suburban depending upon the load you'd be towing give or take.

Are you getting one brand new? Because I looked at the new long ass expedition and those are pretty tight, and about as long as the excursion.

A turbo diesel Excursion, with a 4 inch lift

I had a hard time finding a turbo diesel excursion with under 100K on it with the 7.3L. Matter of fact I had to settle for a suburban since I didnt have 20K sitting around in cash I had to get a loan for it. Couldnt find an excursion with the 7.3 with low enough miles to finance.

excursions suck they are just oversized explorers in my opinion ive driven both as well as my expedition and i like the expedition much better plus the new ones have lots of room id defnitly stay ford though oh and do not buy from hayward ford FUCK THAT PLACE

Stick with Mustang talk honey. Let people who know the difference between a diesel injector pump and a spark plug give advise on what is going to tow best. Just look pretty and drive your car.

id say get the excursion... the newer 6.0s had little problems... so if you can't find a 7.3 dont be afraid to buy a newer one....

That suburban is hella clean bro , my tahoe has always towed my jet skis/boats trailers and cars hella good and chevys do seem to run forever haven't had that much luck with fords suv's but I know the diesel has some power I doubt the expedition could tow the car trailer to good tho , and I have about 3.5 to 4 months til the kid is here so I got some time to shop , so either a 01 and up suburban or a 7.3l excursion , and I'm selling off all my cars right now so that I don't have to get a big loan if any at all , thanks for the info tho keep it coming

There's a blue or black V10 gasser Excursion for sale here in Modesto that started out @ $10K, and is now at $9200. Not sure of the mileage or other info. Seems like a good deal tho?

Suburban all the way! If the 5.3 isn't enough for your towing needs you can easily find a LQ4 or LQ9 (6.0L) block and swap the heads/intake/accessories etc over it for a cheap swap. Or you can just go all the way to the 2500 to get the 8.1L if gas mileage isnt as much of an issue.

First things first. You stated an opinion rather than a fact. Your opinion is YOUR opinion but it will be subject to scrutiny at other people's leisure.
Congratulations on you towing something. Most women wouldn't know the difference between a cotter pin and a 5th wheel kingpin.
The bottom line is diesel power cannot be beaten when it comes to towing. If it could then explain to your audience why Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightshaker, Mack etc etc etc ALL use DIESEL engines rather than gasoline engines.
The sad truth is you voiced your opinion about shitty vehicles (Ford Exploder & Expedition) when the Excursion is a totally different animal.
Case in point......look up San Diego Fire Dept. online and you'll find that they have swapped from early model Ford Excursions (due to high mileage within their fleet of battalion chief vehicles) to GM Duramax crew cab pickups with special purpose command post camper shells ONLY because Ford ceased production of the Excursion in favor of the gasoline powered Ford Expedition XL. If diesel power is horrible then why would an entire fire dept stick with diesel power and not just stick to the norm and purchace GM Suburbans or Tahoe/Yukons?

You CANNOT compare a gas vehicle to the diesel vehicle when speaking about towing. There is no comparison, NONE. A good diesel with a tune, exhaust can damn near pull a home off its foundation

i dont wanna go back and forth w/ you and agrue... I see your point of view and why you made the statement you did just felt u didnt need to say it like that i guess! i was speaking off opinion of driving and am aware the excursions are built diffrently then the expedition or explorer and thankfully he has you guys to help w all of that my bro knows a lot about diesels and we have had the conversation about the diffrent models he agrees w me on the how the ride and drive part but says the exact stuff you guys did as well so i know you are right i dont need to do research on it bc i dont really care to i was just giving my opinion and respect yours as well

oh and as for towing I had help with attaching the tow hitch and all of that just drove it myself so I dont know much more then that but was a big accomplishment for me to tow safely from one place to another and not kill or hurt ne one
