Ok so just installed a Hard drive E: on the server, im trying to SET the path to this drive to all the users on my domain.

This is whats messing me up..

Active Directory-->Users & Computers--> Right Click On user--> Properties-->Profile--> Home Folder Connect to.... It always comes up at path couldn't be specified.

The server name is

desktop.server

And the E: drive is under My Computer

....

I can manually connect each user to E drive if i manually log on to each user one-by-one but i want each user to automatically to my E: drive at log-on.

Oh few more things

My Server is on my desktop and its a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition

Im testing these user account settings on my XP Professional Laptop which is already connected to my desktop.server domain.

I think thats what your trying to do. Anyways first make sure you share the hardrive.

So lets say my computer's name was DESKTOP and I had a hardrive shared with the shared name HARDRIVE

\\DESKTOP\HARDRIVE

If your not sure what your computers name is
Go start run CMD
Command prompt type hostname

Thanks, but if you look in the background you'll see that my E: drive is shared already.

hostname is nazzim

i even tried

\\nazzim\e

Keeps giving me the same message as it shows on the image on the first post.

What do you think?

Maybe i understand what you're guiding me.

You're showing me how to ACCESS SHARED DRIVE FROM ANOTHER COMPUTER THATS CONNECTED TO THE DOMAIN right?

But the way im trying to do it is by, configuring the user account on ACTIVE DIRECTORY automatically so when the USER logs onto his account, the "E" popps up automatically in MY COMPUTER, so there isn't a need to manually connect to the mapped drive.

\\desktop.server\nazzim$
if you shared a folder, and gave it the share name of nazzim$, which is the typical verbage for a user folder stored on a server.

try opening a run command, and typing in \\desktop.server\

then hit enter

and you should be able to see the available share names that your login has access to see, and once you find the path of the share you want for that user, you can just copy and paste it into that connect box. If you want it to be E, change the Z letter in the drop down box to the left to E.

Create a folder named "homes" or "users", and share that out, and give full permissions for everyone on that folder. Then try \\servername\sharename in the run dialog...

BUT

Im not trying tryng to share folders on the network... Or asking how to access folders on the network...

What im trying to accomplish is (scenerio)::

I have 5 drives on my SERVER, i have 200 Users on my network and they all are connected to my desktop domain. What i'm trying to is whenever ANY regular USER that logs onto his workstation, i want them to automatically connect to my "E" hard drive on my server.. So instead of them MAPPING the shared drive, its ALREADY there in MY COMPUTER.

So basically i just want everyone in my network to see my "E" drive as a NETWORK DRIVE in their M COMPUTER..

I think you need to pick up a book active directory, all of the helping posts in this thread are telling you what you need to do, I can't think of any other way to tell you how it needs to be done.

All those methods given doesn't work, i tried renaming the drive numerous times, i even tried sharing the drive through file server management.

It keeps giving me incorrect path or "share not created"... I creaded folders and tried linking it that way but [Frown]

Im working on a graduation project for school but its not due till end of October.. I'll try asking my professor tomorrow and see what route he gives..

you do not share the drive, on a 2003 server all drives are shared by default.

if it is the e: drive, the share name is thus-

\\desktop.server\e$

that is the auto created share when you install server 2003

you can put that path into the connect to box of your users profile, then change the letter in the drop down box to the left to be E if you want it to show up as E.

however, it is most common to have a common shared drive be the S: drive, and a users personal (or home) folder, be labeled an H: drive, which is usually done with a shared folder on a drive kept on the server, one folder for each user.
