My stepson passed his dmv test today. I told him he could have the 88 coupe (v-8 5-speed) he told me no. He said he wanted a honda or a 2002 or newer mustang. I told him good luck, you wont be getting any help from me.

we must be gettin old. my cousin built a beautiful 67 ragtop bug for his daughter.Built 1835 motor with dual webbers,(dynoed at 130hp which isnt bad for a bug) pistashio green paint, lowered, chrome porsche rims, built tranny, stereo, with beat.he spent like 10k on this thing and his 17 year old daughter wants nothing to do with it. When i was 17, i would have flipped for something like that.

I say pick him up something real shitty like a CRX for 500 bucks and then let him experience the embarrassment and ridicule from his peers.

Then he ought to be begging you for the coupe. [Big Grin]

Funny you say this, when I was in h.s.(class '03) my dad offered to buy me a reliable, fuel efficient car for up to $15k. I told him no thanks I wanted to save up for a foxbody 5.0, no regrets here [patriot]

hey look at it this way at least he wont try to get sideways or anything like that in a honda and end up wrappin around a tree like most teenagers that get 5.0s

I wouldn't mind getting a honda beater for the gas mileage and for the peace of mind that nobody will want to jack it. But, I wouldn't complain about anything that would be given to me for free.

I know a kid who cried because he got a white nintendo ds lite instead of a black one. I know his Mom went to the stores every morning for two weeks to get this thing.

Giving a kid a fast or even semi fast car is like giving them a gun. The most important thing is to teach them what it can and cant do. They need to have respect for it and understand what happens if they make a mistake. I have 2 young kids (5 and 6) that both know what a gun can do and have respect for the weapon. They will both be taught exactly the same when it comes to driving, to respect the vehicle and not treat it like its a toy..... untill they get a bit older anyway [Big Grin]

LOL, I offered my step son the same thing, but I thought he would take better care of a Mustang if he built it himself, so I bought a 4 cylinder coupe I and wrecked GT, I told him build himself a Mustang, if he wants something to drive with my help, but he doesnt seem to care, so I put them both up for sale to see if that changes his mind on getting to work on them.

Damn, all my Dad gave me was a 73 Coupe Deville. Don't get me wrong it was a pimp ass car with s 472ci engine, but I always wanted a Mustang. That way I can go fast and get slightly more than 10 miles to the gallon. I never at any time thought of a Honda. Does he want chrome lights and a peeler wing with a fart can to go with it.

+1 I hate all these kid's runnin' around with honda's and think their fast.
hell it would cost you big money just to get a honda in the mid 13's.... that is without blowing it up NOS

It's probably because his friends all think Hondas are cool. I know I loved ricers before I started driving because all my friends liked them, and there were a lot in the parking lot at school with fart cans and shit. Then I got my license and realized my 2.5 ton station wagon with a 5.0 was faster, I started saving for a decent domestic the next day.

Amazing. My friend's kid told her he wanted a Lexus or a new Dodge Charger for his 1st car. He turned his nose up at her Focus.

When I was 16 I was happy that I had "any" car. I think kids these days expect that everything in life is free.

shit I was happy at 14, when friend of mines aunt let me have her non-running 89 4cyl notch for free..I always wanted coupe even before I was 14...so I had all these hopes and dreams for it...sold it a year later bought a couple early 70's old school corollas..one of them was fast as hell for a 16 yr old(smoked my notch I now own)..sold it bought my v8 notch before I turned 17..owned it ever since, couldn't be any happier with her...STORY OF MY LIFE [Big Grin]
