Ok so here's the deal, I had Yokahama es100's and BFG kdw's in 245/50/16 in the past with no problems other then they looked real skinny. I picked up 255/50/16 Yokohama A032R (auto-x/road race tire) for my rear about 7months ago, then wore them down to completely bald. Today I bought 255/50's again but a much more streetable tire. I wanted to stick with a 255 because I liked the wider, flush, and tucked under the fender look a lot better..so I ended up purchasing the Falken Ziex 512's. I am 100% NOT satisfied. Feels like I'm driving a damn boat!!! The rear sways all over the place especially above 45mph..You can shake the car side to side while stopped and literally see the tire flew almost a full inch left to right. So basically what I'm getting at is, I need tire suggestions from you guys that run a 255 on a stock pony rim also? The downside is it's not a very common size, one of my other choices was BFG Gforce sports..Does anyone know if those sidewalls are a lot stiffer? Or am I better off just going with the more common size 245/50/16??

if you want a stiff sidewall you will want to stick with 245/50's at the max on a pony (a 225/50 will be NOTICABLY stiffer however)


if you want to run wider tires, you need wider rims.

its not necessarly wanting a very stiff sidewall I just don't want to feel like I'm driving a boat, my 255 A032 were the best handling and solid tires I've owned, has anyone had any luck with the GFORCE sports? I would just buy the A032's again but they're almost $200 a tire and I only got 4000miles out of them with easy driving and time to time corners..I know other board members run this size because I was given the idea of the 255 from 2-3 board members on picture post of my car a while back..

Dude your going from almost a full road race slick to a street tire. You got spoiled by the ao32rs, when I had mine its all I ran.. Just got to save up for tires every 6 months =)

toyo makes a great 255/50/16 their RA1 is a high performance street tire also use for spec racing with scca and nasa
