I just had a quick question. Is there a major power difference between an automatic supercharged saleen and the 5spd model? Is it also true that you can pay insurance on a saleen at the same rate as a v6 stang? I'm looking at an 01 model. Dont know much about the modulars, thanks. [patriot]

Insurance rate would be that of a GT not a V6, and as for power difference, as always a stick will lay down more than an Auto [patriot]

Wont always come up as V8 gt. Saleen buys from ford. Buys V-6 models and throws on there brakes and engine combo among other things. This is the main reason that they show up as V-6. The vin dictates its a V-6 not the engine in the car. So in some instances it is true.

I have proggresive and when I had an 89 mustang it said on my card "1989mustang/cobra", I was like what the hell there's no 1989 Cobra.

All S281 Saleens will show up as a V8 through the VIN because they are all built from GTs (unless it is an S281 Cobra). The only cars that will show up as a V6 chassis are some of the S351s (that have been discontinued since 1999). Insurance on an S281, at the least, would be that of a GT Mustang and not a V6.

That's probably because Canadian model V8 Fox-body Mustangs were called "Cobras" even though they were no different than US models. Ford called them "Cobras" in order to retain legal use of the name. (At the time, Carroll Shelby and Ford were in a legal battle as to who had rights to the "Cobra" name).
