guys, I have had it with tire shops treating rims like they are worthless pieces of shit. The normal tire shops I go to toss the rims around with no care for the finish, balance them from the outside, and generally take no care protecting the rims. I've even known people with misaligned fenders after their cars were jacked up by the subframes rather than under the K-member, a-arms, or rear diff.

I got some brand new rims and I don't want to take these to some ghetto shop that will scratch them up.

So where do you all take your tires and rims to get mounted? Can I trust anyone around the East Bay to take the same care as I would myself?

do a search for one of my old threads about tire shop. a lot of poeple gave me some good recommendations. you just have to read through the thread.

why is this such a big deal. I've always taken my tires to small shops and stood there with the guy and said, dont' scratch it and just stood next to him the whole time.
Ofcouse, this has been with rims i gave a crap about which have only been two sets.. all the other set i could have cared less.

I have always tried to go to Kens tire in Livermore. Ken keeps his guys in line, and they will bust ass to make sure you are happy.

Ken Tires, I used to sell tires to him when I was in the Tire Wholesale industry,his shop is very good! [Cool]

lol, What makes you think that the guy making $8-12/hr gives a rats ass if I am standing next to him or not.

Normally I don't care that much, but when you have brand new expensive rims, it becomes a bit of a concern [Wink]

what makes YOU think that it has anythign to do with his salary?
He could be making 35 bucks an hour and still care less about your rims.
Forgive me for trying to give you advice on maybe saving a few bucks.
It's not so much about being there watching him, but just being friendly and polite and not condecending. If you are there talking to him, then he'll be more likely to take care of you than anythign else.

Your absolutely right. It comes down more to the individual person than the salary.

In my experience, most tire guys that I have encountered treat rims terribly, and that is why I made this post.

My whole point was that if guys were making $500,000 per year to mount and balance tires, YOU BETTER BELIEVE that they would go to greater lengths to keep that job than if they made less.

You tend to work harder and work more carefully when you make more money. If you disagree with me on that one, we are not on the same planet.

I apologize for having offended some people and I don't want to get into a debate about what drives tire mounters to do a quality job. I just want my tires mounted by someone who is careful and I got some great recommendations here. Thanks guys.

so true...if i made much less than i do now id probably not give a rats ass about my job but since they do compensate me well, im more willing to bend over backwards to get the job done. u have more to lose obviously when u make more than working a job@ minimum wage.
at the tire shop i go to in burlingame they do a great job mouting and balancing but then again, thats probably because the owner is helping out and ensures the customer is happy. an unhappy customer obviously affects him directly so he hs more on the line.
now going to agundi's years back in southcity(under the previous owner), a worker there took my brand new rim out of the box and tried to place it on it's face on the floor and definitely i quick to react.

sorry cant recommend a shop in the east bay.

it really doesnt matter how much you make an hour it all depends on how much the person need the work somebody who is working to support their family will work hard even at minimum wage i go to calderons in san jose and the guys there do good work
