what type of ipod is it? 3G, 4G, mini, nano? I'm sure the battery is just dead. Its super easy to replace.

Is anything showing up on the screen at all? Sometimes the hard drives take a poop and leave a corrupt file image on the screen. But you may just need to reset your Ipod, hold down the center button and the Menu button at the same time for at least 6 seconds or until the apple icon appears on your screen.

www.batteryspace.com sells the batteries really cheap, I fixed a friends for $11

dont need the toolkit, the ipods come apart if you have a eyeglass flathead screwdriver, once you get it open no tools are needed.
