I just a had a quick questions on how reliable a 5.0 with over 120,000 miles would be. I have around $4000 to buy a 5.0 for a daily driver but i dont want to run into any trouble right when i buy it. let me hear your answers! thanks

my convertable has 180k and has never had a mechanical failure except the alternator, which was $90 to upgrade.

As part of maintenance, you'll want to replace several things, but the same is for any car with that kind of miles on it.

+1

I had a 86 GT w/260K. It was the best running car I have owned. It made it to Irvine CA MANY times & it got approx. 330 miles w/a full tank.

The rear end's are pretty reliable. T5's will also hold up for a while if You don't abuse them or throw too much power in the mix. So I would say for the most part the drivetrain is pretty good.

Not trying to argue here but if You abuse any car You have to expect to pay the price. Stock AOD's do suck and I should know because I went through 3 of them before I built the one I have in the tunnel now, which is a pretty bad mofo with A servo, red clutches, one piece input shaft, lentech manual valvebody, tranny brake, edge racing converter, etc....

no not arguing,, having a good discussion. i abuse the crap outta my car,, i;'ll admit it.. fortunately i've had luck with AOD's,,,, but back to 5.0's,, its just that with the two I've had i;'ve had you gotta remember that they are more than 13-to 18 year old used cars, and that things are gonna wear and tear and need replacement.. ie.. radiator.. fan belts, fan clutches.... heater cores,, etc.

like stated above, if properly taken care of, these things will go forever.. i'm at 181,xxx and still running strong without a rebuild..

So far the biggest headaches on my car were: harmonic balancer, rubber gasket that leads into the gas tank, pick up sensor, and broken rear swaybar.

I got a 94 gt with 143,xxx and my rear sway bar just snapped on me.

It seems to be a common problem. I found a bullit rear sway bar from some place online that was around 70 bucks shipped. Check corral.

120k is pretty good for a foxbody. It should be pretty reliable as long as it is well maintained.
