Looking to pick up a new Mustang but not sure what would be the best. This will basically be a graduation gift to myself [Big Grin] and it'll be the first car I finance. I was thinking about getting:

1. 2005-2006 Mustang GT
2. 2003-2004 Cobra
3. 2003-2004 Mach 1
4. 2005 Saleen

Right now, theres a sale on the GT's for about $23K, or I can find a used one with about 10k miles for around the same price.

I have seen 1 2005 Saleen on CL from a dealer going for about $33k.

The Cobras are still prices in the high $20K's, which is why I was thinking of just getting a newer model GT.

The Mach 1's are still in the lower $20K's, which is also why I was thinking that a new GT would be better money spent.

My ideal car would be the 2007 Shelby, but when the hell are the prices going to be regular ($40k range)?!?!?!

I am getting this car to basically keep forever, since it'll be my first car that I'll be paying good money for. I want something fast, but reliable. I am also looking for something that handles well, since I would like to track it on occasion....not looking too uch for a drag car. Please help me decide and tell me why yuou feel that way. I will be picking something up within the next few months, so I want to make my decision soon so I can start looking for "my" car. Thanks guys and and I appreciate your help [patriot]

IMO, The 03/04 cobra. If you look around enough you can find them for around the mid 20k range.

The 03/04 Mach1's are really nice too, cant go wrong there.

Just look around and test drive a few of them, make a list of the pro's and cons of each and go from there. [Smile]

I know a Terminator will probably be the funnest car to have/mod at this time, but for less money, I can get the 05-06 GT and have the newer look with new suspension setup.

I test drove a 06 GT once and it felt very similar to my cousin's stock 04 Mach 1. As far as handling, I wasnt able to test that out much, but the power was about the same.

I'd love to see what your car note would be like if you financed a 2005 Saleen [Eek!] . Weren't you looking for a commuter not to long ago, got the stang fever again, huh. [Big Grin] . The saleen IMHO is a VERY overpriced piece of work. To get the most bang for buck get an 03 cobra and dont look back [patriot]

Yea, I got my commuter car and R6, so I'm good as far as commuting [Wink]

Yup, the Mustang fever is in my blood for good and I need to have my fix!! Yes, the Saleen is a beautiful car aesthetically, but it does have the same GT motor in it, which is why I'm kind of not TOO interested in it. An 03-04 Cobra would be nice, but the new body is nice as well [Frown]

Decisions, decisions...

Take a look at this car. I have seen his car personally and it is meticulously maintained. Killer deal.

Financing a car would be a big mistake because you would be buying more car than you could afford. Ask your self what would happen if if you are neck deep in payments and then the unthinkable happens: you loose your job. I always like to say that going through life sucking the dicks of the banks and car dealers by messing with payments is unwise. I'm assuming that you are young, so as a result, insurance on a V8 mustang will be extremely expensive. If I were in your shoes, I would pay cash for a cheap car that would not kill you with insurance payments because sinking all most one's entire paycheck every month on an asset like a car that rapidly goes down the toilet in value is idiotic.

Id say just make sure your commuter is running good. Save some money and buy a house. You got the bike for speed and the DD for rain/ getting around. Resist the temptation to make a big car purchase right out of school...

mr antifinancing himself speaks again. i notice on every thread related to financing/payment whether its here or other boards like svtperformance, u make all efforts to chime in on how much it is a bad idea to finance a car.

i do see where you're coming from on why financing may be a bad idea such as overcommitting yourself to debt. financing is not at all a bad thing if done right and you have your priorities in check.

did you have a bad experience with a lender or what? haha

as far as the thread starter, id say spoil yourself and get a saleen whether its the new edge or 05 bodystyle.

No, I have never had a bad experience with a Leander, but I Have been unemployed in the past and If I would have carried any debt, I would have been screwed.
Here is some food for thought? what is one of the leading causes of suicide? that's right, Debt. On the other hand, I don't know of any one ever killing themselvs because they saved too much or lived with in their means.
