I know this is a stupid qustion but I recently lost my keys... both sets that I had. Would I have to get a hole new ignition or can I have some made up? this is on a 92 cadillac, that from what I understand has a chip in the key....

Not 100% sure especially on a Caddy ..... but i believe w/ a FORD you'd have to have the vehicle at a dealership so that they can cut and program the key.

Was the Key a small head or a wide head? Also did it say GM or did it have the Caddilac Logo?

Deville or Eldorado? It had separate keys for ignition and door correct?

GM ussually keeps the info on cars about 10 years back. If the locks/ignition have never been changed go to any GM dealer with ID and proof of ownership.
The will take your vin, decode it fax it to GM, Gm will fax back another series of numbers, then they enter all those numbers in a hand cutting machine and manually punch out the grooves in your key. When they fax comes back it also tells them which key to use since you have the VAT's key which has around 20 different chips.
This should only be the cost of a key. The only problem I see with your car is the year GM may no longer keep the Vin info for keys on file.
