Im thinking of getting a commuter and an SVO came to mind.... what kind of experience have you guys had with these cars?

Don't do it. NOT reliable at their age w/ a turbo 4. I had mine for two years and had one issue after another. Once they have high mileage, lots of things waiting to go wrong. Turbo's go, flat tappet cam goes, all the hoses and wiring baked from heat, alternator connector burns up, and if an aftermarket boost controller has been used, then the shortblock is suspect. It was a blast to drive, but a pain to keep alive.

I havent owned one but a friend did and my aunt and again its a ford as great as they are they are problems and the older you get the more problems so defintitly wouldnt get one as a commuter car you might just have to settle for a honda or toyota or something or get a more reliable ford if theres such a thing [Big Grin]

I had an 85 SVO. NOT a great car - always something wrong with it. You would be better off with a stock 5.0 with 2.73's if you worried about gas.

why not a LX 2.3 or a ranger 2.3?

and since we are talking about 2.3 engines, my friend has a ranger with a 2.3 and he wants to put a svo or cougar turbo on it, just wondering if its really difficult to fit in a ranger?
