Poor reception, dropping calls, etc.

I can't talk more than 5 minutes without having a call drop. Maybe it's the phone right? Well, I changed phones, same thing! Changed phones again, same thing. Two people in my family who are with Cingular have the same problem.

I'll sit down and look at the phone and have full bars. 3 seconds later it shows no bars at all. 10 seconds later its back to full bars.

FUCK YOU CINGULAR you RAT BASTARDS. [Mad]

This is ruining my life, lol. [Big Grin] HELP!

I agree Verizon has the best coverage in the bay area. My wbole family is on Verizon and we talk for free and I have not dropped a call on a moto e815 and razr. With my treo 650 and moto q, I don't get full signal and I do drop calls every now and then but it is only because of the device itself.

I know that recently cingular was having a problem with the network, I wouldnt get v-mail's or texts for a couple of hours then all of a sudden my phone would say that i have 3 v mails and 5 texts etc.... Call customer service and have them try and trouble shoot it and reset the account maybe that will help.
Btw: i happen to like cingular alot. I get reception in places that friends with verizon and sprint dont.

for the cingular users:

are you using the 32K SIM or the new 64K smartchip?

I am using to the 32K "old style" chip and my service sucks. My folks have the 64K smartchip and their service is twice as bad as mine.

wtf is going on? It seems to come and go. One week its awesome. The next, drop call every 3 minutes.

my uncle didnt get service for shit, he thought it was his phone and upgraded to a razr and the service got a little better, considering he went from basicly 0 service getting voicemail's several days later , he was better off using 2 cups and string.now he is getting decent reception.

Good info here. I was thinking about getting the Treo 650 with Cingular next month when I drop T-Mobile but now I may consider Sprint or Vergina Wireless.

honeslty go with sprint, they recently recieved permission from verizon to use the towers for roaming. and since sprint offers free roaming with there nation wide plans you get sprint and verizon service for the price of one.

well ince i work for cingular ill post a reply on this thread... not to argue tho... but like luke87 said you need to know what smart chip your using and if you have a blank, an old pac bell, a32k, a64k smart chip then you need to get 2 your local store and pick up our new 3g64k smart chip because the network is changing and service on all those other sim cards is getting really bad so you need the new one... its free just make time to pop in and pick one up... then you should be happy with the new service

you telling me that there are different 64K smart chips?
If I walk in wanting to replace my 32K, will they know to give me a 3g64k, or do I have to ask?

I work for verizon, and I can say that Verizon is using a 3rd generation CDMA network (soon to be 4th gen), spends $5 billion a year on improving and expanding the network, and is known as having THE best network. Period. Cingular claims to have the "fewest dropped calls," but it is a very biased and skewed statistic. Of course you'll have fewer dropped calls if you don't count the times that you can't even connect as a dropped call [Razz] now that's not to say you won't have dropped calls etc. with verizon. if you're having excessive problems, talk to customer service and you'll probably return it as a manufacturers defect. or you can upgrade, depending upon how long you've had the phone.

anyways, Verizon offers a 15 day return policy, because they're so confident you'll be satisfied with the network and service quality. don't think they're better than everyone else? return it, get out of the contract no prob and go back to whomever you had before

those in the Sacramento area, I'm workin in Arden Fair. come see me if you're lookin to move on up [patriot] if you're otherwise happy with who you have now, cool deal.

From my own experience: I have GetroPOS at the moment. It's good to not have to worry about minutes, time, or a contract, but yes, the signal sucks compared to everyone elses! I get dropped calls all the time on 280 & no signal at all in the hills & along some of the coastal areas of HWY 1... I've had Sprint previously, but their customer svc. sucks! (extending my contract without letting me know what's up was total BS) Signal was ok though... Cingular was ok & T-Mobile also. I don't know if Cingular has gotten any better from all the claims lately (commercials I see)... In all the areas I frequent & borrow friend's phones to test, Verizon did have signal where the others did not. Wish I would've kept my Verizon way back when they still had the 7PM nights... Just my $.02. Like I said, just from my own experience & it's really about where each individual frequents-for some people Getro is the best [Razz] [patriot]

Ive had sprint and metro, and metro was actually BETTER than sprint for me. with sprint, there is ZERO coverage at my house, and I live in the Sacramento metro area. my gf's phone goes into roaming here, my phone would repeatedly drop as I drove down Business 80, etc. none of that with metro, but it would still drop calls and eventually the txt messaging got screwed to hell on my phone (no outbox, sentbox, or create message; i'd send a txt, get a "message not sent" error, but people would still get the txts etc.) the only thing i liked about sprint was having the data stuff like surfing the web, even though it hardly ever worked on my sprint phones. works perfectly with my verizon phone, and the only dropped calls have been with my gf's sprint phone [Razz] i'm not sayin this just cuz i sell it either. i'm very disappointed with sprint; metro just doesn't provide the coverage or data services I want. now if you never leave the area, talk and text a crapload and want the cheapest plans available, metro is perfect for you. every provider has their niche

I got a voicemail from Cingular this morning telling me to come in so they can install a new SIM card. Think I'll jump on it!

BTW. I used to get alot of dropped calls. I called Cingular and they said to shut the phone off every night for 60 seconds, something about the network resetting, then turn it back on. I do that now and can't remember the last time I had a dropped call! Give it a shot!
